Worked fine off road and was very aerodynamic on the road where bikes like this spend 80% of there time. The new TR650 has a normal fender.

Its a big Thumper. It should be the best bang for the buck 50/50 bike.
Its allways a trade off with dual sport bikes.
The bigger the engine the less dirt worthy the bike will be, but better on the road. Its the total opposite with a smaller cc bike like a 350. The 350 will leave it behind on the tight twisty technical stuff but wont be close in comfort/performance on a dirt fire trail or street use.

Thats what i want. If i wanted a bike better for dirt trails than id get a 250 or 350.

People need to realize that 90% of the 600cc class dual sport bikes were never designed for track or hard core off roading. They are designed as cross over between dual sport and a touring bikes. The true 50/50.

Its like trying to compare a Jeep Rubicon to a Jeep Cherokee for its off roading capabilities. Not in the same class. Sure it can do it but not as easy as the Rubicon can.

Husky used to make the ultimate Big Bore DS bikes. In fact I would say that the TE610 was probably the closest you can get to being a true 50/50 Dual Sport bike.
Better than the KLR's , DR's etc.. in the dirt and with it's perfect WIDE RATIO six speed tranny as good if not better on the highway.

I'm sure the new 650's will be awesome bikes as well and, as someone already pointed out, they'll probably be very appealing to the KLR crowd. I guess it'll
be Husky's Adventure/ Dual Sport bike.

I'm not going to repost this so here is a link. Might give you some idea what to expect. If TT does not like my link remove it.

not sure where you found these pics but neither bike are even close to what the 650 Terra looks like...the Silver bike looks like a BMW  thats been modded to fit someones personal likeing and the Husky looks like a 449 with an after market exhaust....The new 650 Terra is similar in style to the 630 with the dual exhaust and the KTM (style) looking headlight and front fender.

The Red bike is mine (Te511) and the silver one is my buddy Joes. The silver one is a modified G650 BMW which the TR650 is based on.

Me too.
The Tarra isnt based on the 650GS..The only thing it has in common with the BMW is the Engine, which was givin some well deserved horses. It dosent use the same frame, seat, plastics, dash board or exhaust its basically a new bike. Engine excluded...I wish i knew how to upload pics on TT so i could do a side by side comparison.

You friend Joes bike is a nice looking bike, with some nice mods..but its not even remotly similar to what the Terra looks like.

Not trying to cause a TT fight lol, but from all the research ive done  and talking to dealers about this bike is that only the engine is carried over. The engine has been upgraded with a better FI system, cam, and high comp piston and a few other upgrades...everythng else is new except for a few parts copied from the 630.

If you put the Husky 630 and the new 650 side by side, there isnt much visually different except for the engine, and r/h chain drive. Even the frame looks remotly similar. Just wish the 650 was as light as the 630 and had its suspension travel.

Not to worried about only having a 5 speed. Depending on the gear ratio and torque curve a 5speed could be just as good as the 6. Only time will tell i guess.

The TR650 has a lot more in common with the G650 than the 630. Like the entire motor (although somewhat modified) I have owned many 570, 610 based bikes and know all about that platform. Have ridden several G650's as well. What I was getting at with this post is the Silver bike in the picture has the base motor and very modded bike (lost 60 pounds, much slimmer bodywork, stronger motor, complete front end off a YZF thats lowered and revalved, replaced and modded shock and linkage. etc) SO.... I thought it might be fun to ride my buddies bike back to back with my TE511 and get a feel for what the TR650 might be like. Thats said the 650 above was better than i figured it would be, was more off road worthy (although still heavy and huge) and was excellent on the street. Bucket-loads full of huge flowing torque, WIDE trans and far smoother than any 570/610/630 based machine. More power too. At least bottom to mid. My 02 TE570 was FAST but painful to ride for long as it shaked so bad. My 511 feels like a 80/20 bike (off/on road) the 610 platform a 50/50 and this Silver bike a 75/25. IMHO. All this is just food for thought.

BTW my internet dad can beat up your internet dad. ;)

Ride, since you have so much experience with the Huskys, I need some info. Can you rec an '09 TE610 for ds? 4000 miles in very excellent shape for $5000? And I have to throw this in, I knew you wouldn't be gone long!

Husky website has no info, pictures or even a mention of a new road/DS bike. Hope it's MSRP as I can get them alot cheaper.
