Hay fellow bikers

Im new to this forum and new to mxing. Yesterday i purchased a 2001 KX250, she ran great yesterday when i tested her. Today i went for a short ride about 30min as i dont want to piss the nabours off. I understand that 2 strokes smoke when they are cold but after letting her idol for a few minutes she seemed to smoke the same and when i started to open her up she started to 4 stroke this did not happen yesterday and when i got home she seemed to be pumping out clouds of smoke. I didnt ride her hard at all was just trying to get to grips with the diffrent style of riding.

I am running a 50:1 fule ratio.(previos owners fule havent mixed my own yet)
jetting is correct for where i am living.
She kicks really easly and starts first kick hot or cold.

what could be the cause and could it realy pop up overnight?

What does starting to 4 stroke mean?  It is probably smoking because it is loading up from riding it easy.  You need to give it some gas to clear it out.  Or, worst case scenario, you may have a bad right hand crank seal.  Check to see if you are low on trans. fluid.

Try going to 32:1 it should lean it out some and then adjust the air screw. Is it spoogeing too or just smoking?

I am not 100% sure what spoogeing is, but if it is exces oil out the exhaust then no more than any 2 stroke. I will try the 32:1 when i mix tomorrow. The crank oil is a bit low but now lower than when i rode it yesterday. I do plan on changing it tomorrow any way. 4 stroking in my deffinition, sounds like the bike is being bogged down like having the choke on (I sware the choke was off.) or even hitting a low rpm limiter it struggled to gain rpm. Can it really get loaded up after a 30 min ride? I am pretty sure all the engine seals were done recently.

its not crank oil. the only oil in the crank is the oil you mix in with the gas in your tank. the oil you change in the motor only lubes the transmission and clutch. spooging is alot of unburned fuel coming out the exhaust. its not caused by mixxing your gas 32:1 50:1 60:1 etc. alot of people screw that up they think its becuase of to much oil. could you take your spark plug out and take a picture of it and post it on here? if not can you describe how it looks?

Sorry not crank, transmission oil. Will take a photo when I do the oil change this afternoon I will take a befor and after picture. A friend of min came around and said that i should let it warm for 5 minutes the ride it like i stole it. What are your guys opinion on that?

Ok the photo i took didnt come out too clear but it looks like the electrodes on my NGK 9EG are caked in carbon but the rest looks clean. I have checked the compression with the finger test and there is still plenty, so i think the piston is still good.

That is a very true and good statement to follow so your bike doesnt cold sieze.

how come none of you guys realize that 32:1 has more oil in it than the 50:1 hes currently running? If anything its gonna smoke and spooge more

its not because of the oil its spoogin, its because of improper jetting.

you cant really tell if it has compression if you put your finger over the plug hole and kick it. thats a really bad way to test it.

I know its not the best but it gives you an idea if you have compression in a pinch. I think I found the problem the guy is running a NGK BR9EG which as i understand it is a hot plug and it needs to be replaced every 20 hours or so, i also have been told it is more for motocross riding or flat out riding. i am still learning to ride and i am learning on an enduro track. One of the guys i was riding with suggested getting a colder plug like a NGK BR7/8EG or BR7/8ES as they have lower operating temps plugs.

I notices she was smoking quite a lot on the enduro track but on the ride home when we opened the bikes up the smoke went away.

Is this true or should i still be looking at jetting?

The smoke is unburned hydrocarbons.  If you open it up, it burns it up.  If you don't, it won't.  Jet for putting around or somewhere in between.

If you don't know what jetting is, just look on any page this frum ever had, because there is one on every page it seems.  :-)

Well there's your problem!  Put a BR8ES in that thing!

Higher number, colder plug.

Lower number, hotter plug.
