I had the good fortune to run across a 2011 790 Ducati monster today while out riding on my Pro cycle 780 with the #190 cam, TM 40 carb, power bomb pipe and FOX40 muffler.
We did a 3rd gear roll on and while I never beat the Ducati I didn't loose by much. He was able to very slowly creep away.  3rd was close , 4th he seemed to slightly be pulling on me and the same with 5th but when we finally quit near the top end of 5th I was within a few bikes of him.
Not bad for a old 2003 old school bike VS the Duacti Monster???
I do have a 150 tire and super moto rims but geared 16/42.
I was pleased. He paid almost $14,000.
Pro cycle puts together a nice package and you can keep the 650 stickers and get away with it. I never told him it was anything but a 650

This is the bike he was riding

Cool. Not bad for a stock DR650.

I think it was mean of me not to tell him it was not a stock 650 but a totally done up one. LOL
I was tempted to tell him but I resisted and let him go away thinking those Suzuki DR's are quick.

If he paid 14k he was full of shit or robbed blind, the 1100s still can be had for under 12.
The DR is such a fun bike and while I own several European bikes include the elusive and magical Ducati; I still love my DR650 more than any of them on the street.  The only Ducati I would ever own again would be a Monster from 90s up to 2008.  Of course a nice 916-996 for the living room is ok too as riding it on the street is $$$ with a 1600 valve adjustment every other year!
I rode my friends Husky 510 (older dirt model) the other day.  Wow my DR would smash it on the street...  I thought I might sell it this year and buy a KTM or Husky, since I rode the 510 and a 620 I just bought new racetech front end and rear shock stuff from Procycle.  Along with all new blue plastic.  I spent more on the parts then I spent on the bike (~1400).  I bought it for less than 1500 with SM wheels...
Point is this DR650 is about as good as any super moto bike can get.  I have never owned a real dirt bike, one thats light and has good suspension, I bet  can't ride worth a damn offroad either.  So I'm going to keep her and ride the tires off again for another fall and winter season.  Maybe get a few trackdays on The Shenandoah Circut at Summit Point in WV.  Its a great bike there too with 22 some odd turns.
