So after asking around, I was told that one of the best ways to improve the front suspension on the 250 was to swap on 400 forks. So I picked up a pair on CL, so now what?
Any recommendations on maintenance to do to them before I install?
Is it just a simple unbolt old and revolt new?
Any advice or write-ups out there?

Thanks
-Josh

You need the top and bottom fork clamps/steering stem also. That's assuming the steering head bearings are the same size. The 250 forks are 41mm and the 400's are 43mm. I'm not sure on axle size between the 2 but you'll most likely need the 400 front wheel spacers also. Did you get just the legs or the clamps and stem also?

Maint. wise, I'd say a good cleaning, oil seals, dust seals and fresh oil at a minimum and bushings if they look worn or scarred up.

Seems like a worthy project. A 280 kit and xr400 forks, who needs an xr400? My 250 deflects also but otherwise is great fun on trails. More so even than my 400..but those 400 forks were worked over by precision concepts. (fwiw my buddy's 400 forks r great too)

Couple of guys on advrider have done this conversion.

Hi youll want a 400 wheel as well.
A 250 wheel will work but is slightly offset to one side.
About 10mm closer to one fork leg than the other one.
