Last weekend I went to WV to ride the supermoto around and I also brought the trials bike to go ride some single track Sunday morning. They called it a cheater bike, cause it made all the hill climbs look easy....
There was a lot of trees down due to the storms a few weeks ago so I had a lot of fun going over them and then waiting for them to cut em out of the way since their big dirty bikes couldnt make it. Still no regrets with buying this bike even with the little tank!

The rider skill is mostly due to the bike, the trials bike is cheating
Really, Slick is a fantastic rider. In the other sections I couldnt keep up, my bars are too wide and I dont have bark busters so going fast through the narrow single track wasnt happening. Heres a vid from the day before on the supermoto bikes, Im all over the place and he is just trucking along. Thats also partly cause he has more of a dual sport tire than the strictly street tires I was running.

i feel as tho the trials tire has alot to do with it. i know a few single track guys who use trials tires as long as they dont plan on seeing any mud. but there was a huge skill leavel differance

Videos make it difficult to tell the steepness of a hill. I couldn't tell if the bike rider started out on the pegs but once a rider looses momentum on a hill it is a natural reaction to sit while regaining control, and difficult to stand back up for the rest of the climb. And standing provides much more control than sitting. On a fast climb the MX bike has several advantages; long wheelbase helps control front wheel loft, 12+" of suspension travel to suck up the roots and rocks, and horsepower. The Trials bike is very light and has fantastic traction, but only 6" of suspension travel. With a Trials bike you can literally idle up hills, with a radial Trials tire on a MX bike you can almost do the same, providing the MX engine is tractable.
My experience with TTs in mud is they work better than knobbies, just got to lower the pressure until they can flex enough to self clean.
