Hey guys. I know this forum isnt very active but someone has to read this right?
My mate and I have come up with a random idea to build a foam pit. Stupid I know but fun? I think yes!
Just wondering what would the main concerns be with them? We will be jumping into it mainly with bicycles and pit bikes. Maybe Bigger bikes as we get more comfortable. It wil be built on private property. This idea will most likely fall through anyway.
Thanks Guys.

Unless you have a lot of money I wouldn't go for it. They are more like a money pit then foam pit. You have to keep them covered otherwise the foam will soak up the moisture in the air and rain and get pretty gnarly. And typically a tarp won't cut it. I've also heard stories of people finding poisonous snakes, lizards and spiders in them.

If you really really want to, then hit up local furniture upholsterers and factories as they have tons of left over foam they can't sell and just through out. Most likely they'll let you have it very cheap or for free. Go to car wrecking yards and buy the seats and rip the foam out. Or get old materesses and take out the foam.

Thanks. with snakes and and spiders we dont have many out our way in australia, All the time I have been riding i havent seen any. If we do build it we will be using old scrap metal, wood, and old tyres. Try to make it as cheap as possible. I can get old tyres from the tyre shop for free as my uncle owns it. It shouldnt rain that much anymore here in Australia. So hopefully it wil be all good

I wouldn't use tires. That would suck to land in.

Not to land in. To put around the outside of the pit as the wall. it will be better then just plain wood if you hit it. PLus you can make the pit bigger or smaller very easily

Ahh, then have at it. I was like "Hmm, landing on tires, probably not safe" lmfao.

100k is what the foam will cost you! Unless you plan on using garbage bags filled with confetti.

It always gets me how everyone wants a foam pit... what happened to learning tricks for real. balls out?? it doesn't make things easier having one. and here's what really sucks. you have a 0% chance of landing a trick in a foam pit, you always come to a dead stop. at least real world you've got a 50/50 shot. and I have gone for backflips without a pit. -  not to sound like a jerk. most of that was said in a joking way. when it comes to something like a foam pit, you really better do it right or not at all this is your life you're dealing with.

We wont be doing on full size bikes. Probably just BMX's and that. I know what you are talking about with the life and death situation. That is why I am asking on here. I dont think this plan is going to happen anyway, thanks for all the help. Im not in to FMX but I do like to try some tricks when I get bored on a small dirt to dirt jump.

I know this hardly applies but Travis P on Nitro circus stated the foam alone in his pit was $44k. Do the math!
