Looked at that YZ450f today!

First Impression. Bike was absolutely gorgeous. Other bikes I've looked at this summer on craigslist fell flat in person. This Yz450 was WAY nicer in person. The picture doesn't do it justice which is ass backwards of most people who sell crappy bikes that are doctored in pictures.  Cosmetically it was gorgeous. White plastics with black rims and black powdercoated frame and swingarm. I got a semi looking at it :) BUT I was more concerned with the meat n gravy ...

Then the seller shows me all of his old parts he replaced. Timing chain, piston, sprocket, chain, Radiator, breaks, cables, etc... and they were still in really good shape. The bike itself was in great shape. Exterior parts looked mint. According to him the valves were done when the engine work was done and everything was in spec. Shock and forks were serviced as well.

So then he cold starts it( I felt the header to make sure he wasn't playing with it earlier) and it fired right up first kick. I'm man enough to admit I was a little intimidated when I heard that FCKN MONSTER PURRING. WOW! The engine sounded like "don't FCK with me Mr. Beginner." It sounded so beefy. Instantly I knew of the power you all speak of. Then he rides it around his huge ass yard and brings the tire up in 3rd. I'm like did you pin it, he's like "not even close, you better be careful with this bike."

So I gave him a deposit on the bike because I don't get my refund check for another 3 weeks. I'm going to buy it for 3,500. At the very least I would have NO PROBLEM re-selling it for that much if not more if I wanted something smaller. When I get it I'm putting on a 9oz FWW and a 51 on the back. I know myself. I know will respect the bike and its power and take it REALLY easy. If it's still too much you'll be seeing it on craigslist. Now the torture of waiting for my refund check........

Gnarly!

Now go get some decent gear (at least a good helmet) and have fun. Good to hear you settled on something....

Thread Jack: The simple and cop out answer is I have been busy Alan48. Winding down the last week of work up in northern BC and I like to make sure all my ducks are in a row before I leave. But, on a side note I am having a moral battle. We consult to various companies and do a bit of work on the side. With one company we do about 200-300k per year worth of work with them with profits of about 20% of the total value. Were looking at a seperate and new contract that is worth quite a bit of money and noticed that this contractor that we work with has also picked up documents also, and we know he has done this work before. This job is worth a lot of money also. My problem is if I bid the job and win, I could potentially lose a log term contract. So ya, moral issues tied into business morals or survival?

I think you made a good choice. Your a smart guy and I don't think you'll go out on your first ride and go all balls out and kill yourself. All these guys along with myself hope you have a hell of a good time riding !

I'm still waiting for my refund which if the yammy gods are working with me will be in my account tomorrow !!! These last couple of weeks have been torture. I'm sick of reading my owners manual I downloaded, sick of watching other people ride on youtube, sick of watching the video I took of the bike on my phone when I went to look at it(boy shes sounds beastly!), I just want to ride!

So yeah if all goes well tomorrow I will have my yz450 tomorrow or Monday at the latest. I already have my chain and lock, oils and other lubes, helmet,I just need the thumper.

The only thing that's helped is watching the outdoor series. Was going to go to 'dilla but spent my money on a Leatt instead. Updates as soon as I get it!

Last night I just kept replaying the video I took on my cell phone over and over of the bike after the seller started it. I love the sound of it purring. I probably watched that vid like 10 times.I just keep trying to picture in my head what's it like to ride it.  My poor gf. Like she wants to hear me talk about jetting? This bike and mx is all I can think about it, enough is enough...I want it now!

My awesome wife indulges me all the time.  She's heard every story, be it from riding or wrenching.  I know she typically has no clue what I am talking about, but she pretends like she's interested.  Glad you are still so fired up, make sure you let us know when, and post some pics!!

GOT IT!!!!!!!

Finally got my 2009 YZ450 today. I live in a small little apt complex in the boonies. We have a decent amount of land behind our apt. The problem is dirt bikes are loud and some of the other tenants are trashbags. They get arrested like it's their job. State Troopers are at their apt. like every other week. As soon as they saw the bike they were being really nosy. I wouldn't put it past them to steal it. So to be honest I was super bummed out when I first got it. It was like having something you want so bad but you can't enjoy it because your afraid someone will take it.

I started it up even though I didn't want to advertise my 3000$ bike to the sticky finger neighbors. Rode around the little bit of land we have. (first time EVER on a bike of any kind) Stalled a couple of times then got it going. Didn't really enjoy it though because the land was so small I had to basically do figure 8's real slow. Not fun when your riding a dirt bike for the first time ever and trying to learn throttle and clutch!

I didn't want to keep it at my parents house since I'm 27years old but I felt I had no choice. I brought it up there today with a buddies truck. It's only 15 minutes away and they have a ton of trails that start near their house. Only logical...

So I bring the bike to one of the unloading spots for a popular trail and there's a ton of guys there hanging out after a ride. I'm like please lord don't let me stall. I did. Eventually I got it going and went down the trail. After a half hour of riding and going through the gears I felt WAYYY more comfortable! The bike is definitely fast but I'm glad I went with the 450. I was able to go through all the gears at a little past half throttle.  A couple of times I snapped open the throttle and got to about 3/4 and was like woahhhhhhhhhhhh. It was def. scary snapping the throttle open. I had a blast though. The ride was way smoother than I had imagine and i felt really confident after an hour. I can't ride it again!

pics to come soon....
