Probably riding KTM 520 dirt one day ( maybe KTM 200 if I can pick one up before then) then KTM 525 EXC supermoto on street the next day if tired. If not, I'll ride dirt but SM is my back up relief plan. This gives me a break from the more demanding dirt rides and switches things up. If you don't have a street bike or SM wheelset, we can still ride a couple days. Maybe your going to need a break after a couple days and want to sleep in or go sight see...
I'm planning to hit the 3 southern trailheads first and work my way north. Don't plan to spend as much time riding southern areas but want to scout for future trips. Will prob. stay at Ashland ATV resort when riding southern area but nothing is set in stone. It's a vacation, the only plans are to have a good time riding. No set time frame or destinations.
I have GPS including all the 1600 miles of HMT / outlaw trails, services, etc. so we won't be riding around lost. Not for long any way : ) That's right 1600 miles that we can't scratch the surface of in this short time. Then add in the twisties and you have years worth of riding. Many people have no idea what is there. I'll also carry a cell with service from Sprint (sprint roams on Verizon), AT&T along with (ACR) Personal Locator Beacon and safety gear.
Kids are back in school with no ATV fest or major events planned that I know of to fill up the campgrounds / motels, so the trails / twisties should be wide open during the week. Temps should start to cool off 60-80F and rain reaching the end of it's season according the the almanac forecast it's dry & cooler than normal during this time frame. If I waited till mid Sept. or later you never know if a cold front will roll in so end of Aug. to first of Sept. was the safest window. Plus I prefer not to ride in temps below 60.
A little about me... I'm 49 or is it 50 ? I've lost count but not too old to ride. I'm a avg. B rider when I want to be on the dirt or twisties and would like to ride with the same or better for safety reasons. The been there, done that guys normally have less problems. There are always exceptions to the norm so if you like to ride and want to meet up, we can keep each other out of trouble. BUT if it turns out your a beginner rider I"m going to remind you "I reserve the right to end our training day" Why? because I only have so much time to ride and not enough extra time to sit and wait. This is not a race but A & B riders understand, slow to them is deadly to a beginner if they attempt to follow and that ruins everybodys day.
If interested please PM me and we can talk details. I'm pretty easy going and flexable, but not about the B rider or better part. If an A rider shows up, I won't ride over my head either. It's not a race!
This is a last minute vacation because of rescheduling at work and now nobody seems to have time available. Hoping somebody else out there is planning a trip during this time...
I'll have extra parts and wheels with 2 KTM 500's that can be used for dirt or street, I won't be packing up unless injured, which I hope is avoidable with all the armor I'll be wearing.
Hope I don't come off as too harsh but I've had my share of calling 911 or getting people / bikes home and would like to reduce the odds as much as possible. Let's Ride!
Thanks
Jon
