TXC250 + Athena = TXC310 + clutch squeal

I had an Athena 310 kit installed on my TXC 250 and now have three rides on the bike.  The first ride I heard some squealing but could not tell where it was coming from.  Maybe I had a rock jammed somewhere and since the clutch had never given me issues before, I didn't suspect it.

I rode again both Saturday and Sunday and on Saturday it became very clear the clutch was the culprit.  If I chopped the throttle in second gear and let the bike compression brake I could hear a pronounce squealing that went away when I disengaged the clutch.  The bike seemed to ride fine but the clutch does feel a little grabby and seems to engage at the end of the clutch lever's travel.  The latter comments may be normal as I have ridden my DR650 much of the year and the clutch engages differently and that may be what I am feeling.

I find it odd the squealing only started when I had the 310 kit installed.  This in on a 2009 TXC 250 that probably only has about 500 miles on it.  I am not a heavy clutch abuser but maybe it was worn to the point where the extra torque of the 310 is causing problems.  I assume factory 310's use the same clutch at the 250 so it should be up to the task.

Any ideas before I take it to the dealer?

Lay the bike on the clutch side for a few minutes, work the clutch a few times.  This will work if the brass clutch bushing is a little dry.
If this works then when it happens again pull the bushing out and scotch brite the darkness off the bushing.  Reassemble with some antiseize on the bushing oil it also.
What you are doing is clearenciiing it, anti seize is the final polish.

Hi I have a 09 TXC250 and was woundering if you think the 310 kit makes it a better bike and worth the money.

Thanks Graham

Assuming there is a kit (don't think so as Bore and STROKE are different) you will still have a bike with a close ratio Trans and no counter balancer.  I've had a 2008 TE250 and put the Athena 300 kit on it and now have a 2012 TE310 and a Beta 350 RS.

I enjoy riding both but the Beta is more comfortable,  try and get a ride on one.  If you are not a racer you might appreciate the wide ratio transmission and engine smoothness with the counter balancer,

Yes there is a kit and it is well worth the money. It makes the engine pull harder everywhere.

Thanks Guys, I know there is a kit, love the bike its done over 4500kms and shes still happy, but feel it may be a good idea to freshen her up, big end , cam chain, 310 kit, ported head , should give her a new lease of life.

Ok, was thinking of X-lite.  The ECU should work fine but you will likely generate some iBeat fueling numbers like 127, 117, and 107 to compensate for the increased CC's.

The TXC has a carb, so no messing with ibeat or ECU issues to deal with.

OK, I give up....keep confusing this with another thread on a TE 250.
