I bought a 2001 TTR 225 earlier this week for $300. It is going to either be a fixer-upper, for around $400, or I can part it out and make a few bucks. It needs some electrical work and a few pieces of new plastic and a battery. Whats everybodys opinion about it? Should I fix it up? I have a TTR 125 that I feel very comfortable on while riding with my 10 year old son on his TTR 90 but I want something bigger as he is going to want my 125 soon. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Sam

well fixed up you can sell for 1200, but i would upgrade on the fixes, put bigger jets, vs just cleaning the ones in there out, a bigger pipe is 200,
electrics are what they are no upgrades there.
once you fix it up then you can decide!

If you've only got $300 in it I'd part it out. It's not really that great a bike and not much of an upgrade over the ttr125. About the only thing it's got over the 125 is that the ergonomics are a little better for an adult. Just my opinion.

Fine bike for putting around with your son, for $700 you couldn't beat it.
Rejetted, air filter, exhaust baffle pulled, BIG power compared to 125.
Fix it up.

Fix it. Parts market is crap, you'll end up with a shitload of parts you can't unload and may not even break even depending on the condition of those parts. But for an extra couple hundred bucks, you can fix it and have either a great buddy bike or sell it, although the latter will not make much profit either.

I'm going to go with fix it up. Thanks for the replies. I just can't pass up having a full sized bike for around $700. That and I realized this past weekend I enjoy trail riding more than tracks and I think the 225 will work ok for that for a while. Hopefully the engine works just fine one I get the electrical system put back together.
