Hey guys, I've been trying to find another bike for a few months now and am having a hard time making up my mind. My last two bikes were 250Fs but I've been wanting another 2t. I rode some bikes at a KTM demo day and my favorites were the 150 2t and 350 4t.
I'm thinking I could save a large amount of money by buying a used 125 and doing a big bore and having a fun bike. I would be riding mostly MX but there will be a few trails thrown in here and there. I'm 39yr and weigh about 175lbs and I consider myself a pretty good rider. Been riding since I had a KX60.
Im going to check out a 2004 KX125 tonight and would like to know what to look for.
Thanks
Steve

I seem to remember in '04 Kawi went back to the goofy bladder forks. Just something to be aware of, though they are disabled easily.

If the 04 forks are the same as the 05, they are really good stock. My 05 is completely stock except I went 2 clicks harder on the shock, 170# B rider.

Things i didn't like about my 04 when i had it stock suspenion sucks not horribly but the forks are harsh on braking bumps the shock is also slightly off mostly due to the linkage curve.
Stock the motor is very low end to mid power band but it's okay on the top end but signs off hard. The low slung chassis i liked untill i bottomed out fully first bike i've had where i felt my feet drag flat footed on the pegs! This happened more then once and i wasn't leaned over or landing on an angle. I'm also a smaller guy then the poster is! The only mod's i did to mine where tthe V3 which gave it a lil more crisper throttle responce the pro circuit pipe which let it rev out a little better up top and the full pro circuit shock linkage which helped.
If i still had it i'm sure it be a 144 now and suspension revalved but then i got an 06 yz125 and i don't wanna seem like i'm hating on the kawie but the yz stomped on it but i know porting n head mod's would of really woke up the kx. I still had the kx when i got the yz and the kx is smaller feeling bike it's flick/whip factor is super high a real corner carver! But the kx suspension stock loves to cause head shake the bike stink bugs on the front end so the forks are harsh midstroke which cause the initial shock linkage curve was to stiff this was not limited to the 125 the 250 and F had this issue i strongly suggest a revalve should transform the handle from good to killer.

Thanks guys. I checked out the bike last night and it was a complete pile, the tire were bald, chain rusted, frame had lots of rust and the bike looked as though it was left outside all its life. The bike itself had good power but felt really cramped compared to the KTM 150EX I rode last weekend. Part of me still wants it for a project but I dont really need a money pit at the moment. I was pretty disappointed to say the least. I've had several KX125s and was hoping this would be it. Oh well, I'll keep looking.

Its a smaller chassis which I like. You can open it up with bar position.
