Hi Riders
The Upper Mad River Seasonal Closure is still in effect. Trail crew is currently maintaining the trails in the Upper Mad, yesterday(7-17-12) they reported patches snow over the trail near Mad Lake and drifts as high as 6ft near Two Little Lakes. In order to provide for the longest possible use season we will begin lifting the closure in stages, as we normally do. I expect that the gate at Maverick Saddle will be opened on July 27th or 28th, at that time I expect the trails that will remain closed will be; Upper Mad #1409.1(above the jct. with #1426, above Mad Lake), Pond Camp Tie #1409.2, Chikamin Tie #1561, and Blue Creek #1426(#1426 will be open on each end to allow access to #1425 and #1424). All trails which remain closed will be clearly signed and should open the following week, call the Entiat Ranger Station for the latest details. Just a reminder, and for those who don't know, the Seasonal Closure is in place because of snow and wet trails, trails will open once snow is melted and the trails dry out, a different date each year depending on the weather. This closure helps ensure minimal trail damage will occur and greatly helps this area remain open to motorized use, if trails become damaged by motorized use the area is at high risk of being closed. Basically the closures exists so we can keep it open to motorized use. The Upper Mad is a unique setting to be able to enjoy motorized recreation and we want this to continue for future generations, so please help us ensure that by treading lightly and respecting all posted closures.
Thanks for the cooperation
