I'd say go look at some threads. Put some searches out there to see what's already been written on TT. To me YZ has a lot more benefits. For one thing it's still being made currently and the 06 is a lot newer than an 01'. The latest cool thing for cr's is to put an 01' and earlier motor in the third gen frame cr.. but the yz is there already. There's some that say the bottom end on the cr is stronger than the yz but I don't know . Both are great and so are the other brands. A nice rm,ktm or kx would be good too. I think it's more on what you can get for your money when you buy. I love my 01 cr. I'm predjudice since my bike is set up so well but you can do that with a bunch of bikes.. What color do you like? The great thing is that there is so much information in settings and mods for both of these bikes and a huge bank of knowledge from all the riders out there. I'm still bummed the TT garage isn't functioning as I used to just browse and check out other guys bikes for ideas for mine...funny yur name is Honda for ever?

I will be honest though, I would recommend the YZ simply to support a company that still makes 2 strokes. I will never give Honda my money again for that simple fact. Plus the YZ has amazing suspension. If you can find a good deal on one grab it.

i agree with everything you said except for not giving honda any money....i hear people say that all the time and i just dont get it for the simple fact that yamaha is the one that re-introduced the 4 stroke back into motocross racing in 98 or 99.....just saying that there is more than one guilty party when it comes to what happened to the 2 stroke....jmo...lol

I even go so far as to use aftermarket parts instead of OEM when fixing my bike whenever possible. I know it's stupid but I am a firm believer of speaking your opinion with your pocketbook. It's the only thing companies respect.

Most people people don't have as much trouble with the Mikuni carb on the 01 CR but is still the same carb that comes on the 02+ CR's. I guess the 01 engine wasn't as sensitive to a crappy carb.

Swapping carbs on an older '01 is no big deal.
If I had to start fresh with neither bike, and knowing what I do now, I'd probably go with one of the '00/'01 CR's. They can be found cheap, built cheap, maintained cheap, have a CA Green Sticker (if that matters) and it leaves a lot of money left over for gas/trips.
