Valve lifters

Hey guys how often do the valve lifters wear out I know their about 30 a piece from Yamaha I'm getting a new head and valves just wondering if I need new lifters and is their a way to see the oil screen for the pump without splitting the cases my bike is a 06 Yz450

Not often. Usually, the wear is concentrated on the top surface where the cam contacts them. Dishing, scoring, etc. are grounds for replacing the lifters AND the cam responsible for the wear.

The screen can be inspected in a somewhat limited way by removing the stator housing. There's a port below and behind the flywheel through which you can see the screen.
