I think you are on right idea already, 2006 or 2007 525exc. Great bike and will run forever, will outlast any 530, particularly for street riding.

I have had a 2007 450 exc and a 2007 525 xcw. I sold the 450, I ride the 525 4-5 times a week, It has 265 hrs on it now, and is fresh as it was new. I live and ride in baja, where I ride desert/enduro and extreme enduro-ish type stuff...ie...no trail/rocks.

These bike run forever and are easy to work on (tappet valves!!!!) and are a blast to ride.

The 525 is a torque monster, and the 450 is a quick reving machine. I prefer the 525 for baja work, looking to pick up a 250-300 smoker for the nasties, 525 works great and is controlible if your right wrist controls the throttle properly.

You can't go wrong with a rfs 450/525.

I just bought a 2005 450exc and let me tell you it was the best bike I've ever ridden. Lots of power on hills and trails as well as diverse enough for the track. Just all around great bike. :)

RFS = Racing Four Stroke. I have a 2005  EXC 450. Love the bike but it has a few things that need to be massaged or replaced. Kick stand is a pathetic joke that will need to be replaced. Rejet with JD kit. Replace transmission locking lever with 2007 non bearing version. Easy cheap fix. Rock hard seat. You will be lucky if the stock springs rates are right for you. Brembo front brake master cylinder needs to be replaced with a Niissin unit. Prepare to learn how to bleed front brake system correctly If you actually want it to work. I am guessing most bikes have a list of things that need some tweaking so don't let stuff I listed scare you off the EXC 450. For a dual sport bike, once dialed it can handle just about anything you can throw at it.
