Can someone please explain rake and trail

The 2013 bikes claim to have a smaller number of rake and more trail.  This is something I don't understand fully.  I'm thinking if there is a smaller number of rake,  that the tire is closer to you.  Like i said,  I have no clue  If someone can axplain  I would appreciate it.  Thanks

Less rake means the wheel is closer to the frame as you said, but rake, fork length, and offset (distance of the fork from the frame) combine to effect trail. Some change in the other two numbers must have increased the trail.

   think your right.  If so,  they must have made a pretty good change to the frame.

its just an assumption, but im leaning more toward them just putting in a longer pull rod in the linkage (increases the trail) like the pro-circuit one you can buy.
