The Clarke tank should fit just like the original steel tank using the original rubber mounts on the frame. If the tank is too wide, there is a problem with the tank. I'm not sure how it could be too wide. Are you sure it is for a DR650? Should look like this:

found the problem today. actually fixed allot of problems. i have one of those little vent caps on it and it was not bleeding pressure. it has been hot here 110 degrees. i saw my tank was swelled up like a balloon in the sun this afternoon. i opened the cap and it was like i deflated a balloon. it had so much pressure that the gas was bubbling rappidly for some time after. my carb was flooding as well. my tank is now warped so its too wide to fit the frame right. how the heck should i get it back to shape? anyone else have this problem? i really dont want to have a full vent tube, but i dont want my tank to explode

I'm using the same sort of vent on my cap without any problems for the last three years and we've had lots of 100°+ weather here in Soonerland. You should replace the vent or find out why it isn't venting. However, now that your tank is distorted, you probably won't be able to get it back in shape.

the tank went back to shape slowly. and the vent was for sure not working. i could not even blow air through it with my mouth. i drilled a tiny hole in the side of it. problem solved
