Hey guys just picked up a 2003 xr 50, its having some issues with the carb though. When the petcock is turned on gas just pours out of the overflow. So I replaced the float valve, and still have the same problem. Do I need to adjust the float and how do I do this? The carb is spotless so I know its not a cleaning issue, all the jets are clean and not obstructed. When I pull the carb apart after it pours out of the overflow the bowl is bone dry. Is this because the float isnt set right and making the fuel go out of the overflow before it even hits the bowl?

It was a matter of float adjustment, I bent the tab until it stopped leaking. In case anyone in the future sees this thread.

Good to hear that the gas stopped overflowing.  I've never seen a float adjustment procedure that calls for bending the tab until gas stops.  If it works, then I guess I wouldn't question it too much.  But, if you have any more carb related issues, I would encourage you to find the right procedure for adjusting the float to the correct height before you do anything else to the carb.

Yeah, after that I had a revving problem which ended up being the slide in the carb so now Im having issues with carb adjustment, but I think thats from the bigger carb the previous owner put on for no reason (usually go with a big bore kit, but the engine is stock).
