I was down at the American River relaxing & heard someone go over the edge!  Crash, bang, boom!  It went on forever.  10 minutes later, 3 riders come down from the Devil's Thumb swithbacks., it's the TBSA! 1 fella's bars are bent & his exhaust is no longer bolted to the frame. :ride:

John from the USFS at the Duncan Lookout was also very nice.

Yup,

It was a blast I saw 2 groups of Mountain Bike riders, and 2 groups of dirt bikers.  I waited till 9:15 at China Wall & nobody showed.  There were 5 guys suiting up for their own ride which were nice enough to invite me along, but I had I higher ride in mind.  So I went at it alone. :ride:

Duncan Lookout is 7,100 elevation and I went down to the American River.  My bike was running rich since I'm jetted for 5,200'.  It's not as finicy as my other 300, but I could tell.  The cotter pins held up excellent! I put new rubber on the rear & what a difference that made!  Nice easy pace.  I was surprised to see how much traffic that trail gets, The Tahoe 100 Mt. Bike race is soon and they are training for that.  Downed trees were littered everywhere.  There was no way to get 1 mile before I was riding cleared logs.  The trail is well marked due to the Endurance race so I only got lost when I went exploring.  Two groups I met were from Soda Springs! :banghead:  1 section reminded me of Deer Creek!  It was an exact duplicate!  I gotta ride Deer Creek again soon.

The bike rode excellent.  The front brake is better than ever.  I had to reverse bleed it & it took almost a quart of fluid.  New rubber & tight bolts, it was too good to be true.  That new piston return spring I put on really made the engine come alive! :banghead:

If anyone says the Devil's Thumb is easy................................................. don't ride with them.  It's a great ride, but be careful.  I will be doing this again (albeit different) very soon.

Next time!

Nice report Scott.  Wish I had been in town.  Just got back from Idaho, this time a dual sport ride that took us through Craters of the Moon, the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone then up to Glacier National Park.  We headed back into Idaho via the St. Joe River Road.  Soo many single track trails on that road!!  I'll post a couple photos for you!  (Much riding was via the rail road right-of-ways. Choo Chooo!!!!!)

P.S.  My Thunderstuck Pumpkin Ale came online today!  That stuff is 100x better than anything you can buy in the store.  It tastes like a very heavy pumpkin pie.  The pumpkin and the spice fill your mouth and make your head spin. Holy smokes! I wasn't ready for this on my 1st sip! :ride:

It ain't gonna last till October. :banghead: I'll have to brew more.
