Is it possible for the fork spring to rattle or vibrate against the fork tube while riding? Sorry if its a dumb question but i really know nothing about motorcycle suspension. Its a drz 400s, I have a rattle i cant figure out and while the bike is parked in the garage i can hit the fork tube with the palm of my hand and i can hear the spring inside rattle around. Not sure if i could do this while im on the bike or not. Thanks

I have the same question about the Kayaba fork on the ´12 KXF 450. My friend was riding yesterday and suddenly felt something was a little strange. When we found nothing loose or strange, we rattled the whole front end (with the bike on a stand, wheel in the air) and there was a distinct metallic noise. An RMZ 450 (Showa fork) that we did the same thing to was dead quiet. I did not have my bike with me to compare to.

I have mainly had Showa forks in the past so I´m unsure of this.

Some forks with little preload will ratlle when unloaded,  the springs are long and not a tight fit or they would bot work,  hut if your unsure you should let a competant person look inside

Had the same thing happen on my old WR, turned out the fork had been lowered by previous owner and springs were not properly pre-loaded.  It shouldn't rattle if everything is right on the insides.

talked with the guy who installed the springs today and he said in xx amount of years of doing this i have never had anybody complain about that. Told me to swing by and he would take a look at it.

These are brand new forks. But I agree, if it´s a metallic rattle (like my friends) it´s time to investigate.
