I thought I had it all figured out.

I knew my accelerator pump was not working right, so I pulled the necessary 12 bolts and parts to get the carb loose.

The accelerator pump was not squirting. I knew that I put the diaphragm in upside down the last time I serviced the carb for a minor leak at the apump cover. No biggie. I was going to get to it, but kept riding with no pump for a few rides.

Flipped it over, tested the pump, and put it all back together.

Started it up: "Bladda-bladda-poka-poka-blam-bang-bang, pop-pop-pop"

That's not good. Huge decel pop. Must be an air leak.

No issues that I can see. Everything worked great last time out.

No time left before my ride, so off to Paul it went.

'Your hot start cable is seized shut'

Hmmm, that's actually good news. Easy solution. I must have pulled on the cable, just enough to open the hot start, but the seized cable prevented it from closing back up.

' You have the wrong accelerator pump diaphragm'

What?! It's from the R&D kit, so how can that be?

' They put in the 2002 CR diaphragm in the kit, by mistake'

You know, the one with the long rivet. The one I didn't notice was wrong the last three times I was in the carb.....

He put in the correct diaphragm, replaced the hot start (plunger was fine) assembly, and that was that.

Got to ride, didn't have to tear the bike apart AGAIN and had a great ride on Saturday.

Thanks Paul

@ minute 5:45 you can see me cruising slow, waiting for the dust of the 4 guys in front of me to clear, then wham! I'm gone....

Paul is THE MAN.

Quit falling.
Getting too old for that.

My motor is going to Paul when the time comes.
So far- all is well.

My HS cable was seized shut too...  I never knew it until I went to install my ASV shortie lever set.

Good thing it was seized SHUT and not OPEN.  The problem was not in the carb orifice, but lack of cable maintenance.

I never used it, why lube it ?  Right ?  Wrong...  As Krannie pointed out it can fail in both directions.

Lesson implemented...   Provide for regular lubing and operational verification whether you use it or not.

Got a new R head with stage 3 p&p done by Paul a couple weeks ago with 08' R cam and my bike (08X) really screams now! They were super helpful and professional. Just sent my 06 case up for new crank and head for p&p and new valves. Very happy customer!

Boy, don't I know that. Actually I don't "fall" as much as I "tip over". Either way seems to always be on the left side. Except for last DS ride when a downed scrub oak decided it wanted to be where I was more than I needed to be there and pushed me off the trail. It took 4 of us to get my bike back up on the trail.

Need to go back and try that trail again!!! LOL.

That is why I find myself planted in the seat of my UTV more often now.
With age comes cage !
