Lappers changed the outcome of the race today, OK maybe he would have gotten him anyway. The depth of the field isn't strong enough to start 40 riders. What should be done.

Some days it benefits you, some days it hinders you. THAT, my friend is why it's called racing. Here's a way to take lappers out of the mix: Give each rider five laps on the track by himself; shortest total time wins. It would assure that the fastest guy on that given day would win, but it would be about as exciting to watch as golf.

That wouldn't be fair either though, everyone would ride the track with different conditions. It's racing, line'm up, drop the gate and let the fastest/smartest/luckiest man win.

guys crashing change the out come of the race, should they take out all the jumps, disc all the ruts and bumps? Maybe make it a one lap race so they don't have to worry about lappers?

working your way past riders is a skill just like railing corners or scrubbing jumps. If you can't work your way through traffic as good as they guy behind you, you won't be ahead of that guy very long, end of story.

you upset your guy didn't win or something? time to change the rules? haha

Right you are. They'd have to prep the track between riders (even more boring than golf!). It's never fair unless you win.

Only start the fastest 20 qualifiers.

That sure would make it less interesting. I say no effing way that's a good rule.

Yup, then make the track about 1/4 as big and call it supercross. How lame would an outdoor race be on a 1 mile plus track with only 20 riders?

Kenny is just 17. I know he is a champion already, but he still has some maturing to do. He will learn a lot this year and will just get better. His passing lappers, those small falls every second race, they will go away soon as he gets a little more used to the US Nationals.

True, he got his licens on his 19th birthday and he seemed genuinely surprised that he passed the first time. Ha Ha a pro mx racer and World Champion is still nervous when taking a driving test. Who would have thought..

Baggett had serious lapper issues as well.  Roc would have gotten passed with or without lappers. Baggett was on a totally different level at the end of the race making up 3 seconds a lap with 3 laps to go, the math is pretty simple.  Roc is an incredible rider with a huge future but he is still learning the American way of pinning it from start to finish.  He will be winning races soon but he is just not there yet, he is very close but still needs to learn to finish. Maybe if he took off the 3 pound neck chain he could get an extra second a lap.

I don't think it's so much the lappers themselves as the lappers just ignoring the blue flags. Although Roczen may be the nicest kid in moto, I wasn't rooting for him and even I was a little annoyed when that lapper just plain refused to acknowledge the blue flag and held Roczen up. I didn't want to see Roczen take the victory, but I wanted to see a little bit of a fight when he gave up 1st to Baggett. At least impose a penalty or something when a lapper blatantly refuses to make way for the leaders. Let's face it, it's not the first time it's happened.

Really?  20 fastest?!  that would make for a more boring sucky race. dude, MX is more exciting with 40 of the fastest riders letting it all hangout on a big crazy outdoor  track for 30+2!!! its people like this tryn to change the sport for the worst. it's fine just how it is. the fastest guys alot of times make it all the way to 9-10th place when they lap people.  so then we'd only be able to have 9 or 10 guys in a moto so there wouldn't be any lappers because they "suck". worst idea ever. there's not many people in the world as fast as the top 4-5 guys, their just freaks of nature, so guys are always gonna get lapped.  thats why there's blue flags. its racing, and just another obstacle on the track!

Baggett was 16 seconds ahead of Roczen by the end of the race. Lappers had nothing to do with it. Roczen's physical conditioning is just not where it needs to be.
