I have a 2004 honda recon that has stuck rear brakes so that the lever at the cover panel is stuck. It wouldnt budge even when prying with the 2 lever spots. After lots of pounding with a wooden block, we were finally able to get the whole thing out as one unit: that is, along with the brake dust cover plate came what appears like all the contents of the brakes. I couldnt remove the dust cover plate from what is attached that looks like the drum cover ( I guess the brakes are sandwiched between the dust cover plate and the drum on the backside). I should mention that the one smallest bolts broke off the dust cover plate when I was trying to unloosen it but it does not sit along the outside like the other panel cover bolts so Im not sure what it does (it is smaller metric size than the rest). Please help on how to separate now to get to the brakes. Yes, I have to force the cam lever with a mallet to move it and the drum can spin freely. Sorry for being wordy. Thanks

Check the cable from the pedal to the brake. I have replaced mine twice
on my 2004 Rancher, which is the same set-up as the Recon. For whatever reason,
the cable gets loaded up with dirt. Since I usually use the handlebar lever, I am
not aware of the thing sticking until it is frozen.
