Not just the smart choice... but the only choice really.   Two week break is coming up.   he may as well start early and get some rest.  Its not like he's getting paid.

Very little to gain, absolutely everything to lose. This is the right decision.

What more is there to this story that we are not hearing.  Isn't it as simple as him being hurt?
To the extent of it.

Sadly, Mike hasn't murdered his dad yet and can't seem to keep the pace all the way through a moto. When he can spank Dungey for the duration, then he will have a chance. However, he is doing better than he has yet....

Say what you want about the Alessi's, but Mike is a top 10 racer.   He only falls short when you compare him to the other champions.

Mike needs a foot in his ass.   Tony is doing what he needs to do.    Sure, he's effed up a few times, but overall, he done much much more good than harm.

He's on a small team and is kicking ass out there.   He's sure kicking the crap out of the factory suzuki boys, isn't he?

Yup, Alessi is keeping the dream alive for the so called privateer.  Moto Concepts is still a larger dollar team for a privateer, but with no factory support I think its good for the sport.  He can't bet Dungey though.  At least not straight up.  If Stewart doesn't make it to Red Bud i'll be bummed.  He's a total wacko, but man can that dude ride a bike.

I've been a racer my entire life. No one is more aware of failures or puts more pressure on you than yourself. Mike's dad talks like he is going through what Mike is and he is not. If some one acted like Tony around me in my camp, He'd be the first one to go. The Alessi situation is that Mike is trying to do things for everyone else but himself and he will never be able to satisfy everyone. He has to be in it for himself because no one else can do it for him. Another problem he has faced is a lot of injuries compounded by trying to come back too soon because of his idiot father. He seems to be healthy now and doing well but still has to step up to Dungey's level if he wants to win races and the title because he will never be able to do that in second if Dungey is always first.

Didn't suggest that Tony is all good.  He's got some problems for sure.

that being said...    Mike didn't just wake up this morning and realize he was a bad as racer.   His father has had a huge hand in that.

the one year that Tony stepped away and let Decoster run things was when Mike was with KTM.  He sucked that year.  I'm not talking about the fact that he was on a 350.  I'm talking about him not giving 100%.

Different riders respond to different things.   Some guys need a foot in their ass.  I think Mike is one of those.   Again,Tony could probably dial it back a bit, but he helps more than he hurts.   Just look at Mike.  He's doing great.

This 450 race was just awful. Just bloody awful. The only enjoyment I got out of the whole thing was watching Alessi slowly lose positions. This may very well be the most boring 450 season I can remember. Thanks a lot, Stewart. At least he made it a 2 man race. The 250s though...wow. I think those races are getting better every week.

Alessi will never beat Dungey in points at the end of a full MX season. Alessi is doing exactly what he has always done... He fades out.
Stewart will never again win another "TITLE" in pro MX or SX.
Barcia will beat Stewart on occasion next SX season. But Stewart will not be able to complete yet another full season, and Barcia will out point him.
Dungey is a very special rider, and one that only comes around every once in a while.
His value of a factory rider may infact be higher than anyone else, due to his ability to stay healthy and ride smart, and be consistent.

If Tony took a step back once Mike went pro I think he would have a lot more wins and at least one championship

That kid was screwed the day Tony ordered the "Beleive the hype" shirts

That move surely did not help with Mikey's head.

That was strange that JS7 was shown holding a position in the race yesterday on TV. I guess that was due to the points he has previously earned?

Neither will Windham, Reed or Canard.   Neither will about 50 other guys who show up to race week to week.

Besides, James is too old.   He's fighting father time more than anything else.

THere is a decent chance one of either Reed or Canard will win another championship. Though I'm sure you've eaten crow before  :ride:

James Stewart is done winning any championship. He is to accident prone, there is no way he can make it through a whole season.
I think he definitely has the talent but he can't put it together for a whole season.

Reed is too old.   He gets hurt too and takes himself out.   Canard.   Ha!    He's fragile.

I do eat crow, its better with hotsauce.

His win or die trying attitude holds true.    I like that he goes for it.   I hate that he crashes out.   But honestly, the other guys crash out just as much.   With the exception of the last 18 months, RV himself has been injury prone.

This sport favors the young guys who heal quickly.

JS7 would be smart to rest his body until he is well healed.  There is nothing to prove for this series. he has missed too many races. He has the speed and stamina to compete with or beat Dungey. If he comes back it will be a tune up for the SX season or to get on the MXON team.

Mike Alessi is really sounding good in the interviews.  Reminds me of a happier Chad Reed when he returned to race, not earn a paycheck.  MA should have a lock on second for the series if he stops riding a wide bike when Dungey is passing early in the race.
