DDM Tuning make a Hi - LO HID kit. It's a bit more involved on the install ... but does work. I ordered one and sent it back once I saw how well the single bulb version worked on my DR650. The DDM tuning HID single bulb is about 3 times brighter than my stock 55 watt stock headlight. It's less complex to hook up than the Hi - Lo version. Super bright.

I have a How To install thread on this forum for the single bulb version. Cost was about $27. cost may vary. Mine now has 10K miles of ON/OFF road use.
Still going!

So if the stock 250X bulb is 35 watts, could my stator handle a 35 watt HID bulb? Is it okay to run the HID bulb AC or do I have to rig it up to DC?

To do a HID on the 250x you will need a stator kit.

We offer the stator kit with HID upgrade for the stock light for $200.

I don't own a CRF-X ... but if it's a standard H-4 bulb run in a 12V system then I'd guess the stock system will run the DDM Tuning HID no problem.
A simple plug and play deal. No wiring or runs to battery. My DR650 only puts out 200 watts total ... HID light works perfectly.

See my Install ... (page 2, post 29) :

Basically this is the whole system.

the two spade blades plug into your stock female plug. That's it.

Sorry I forgot to mention the Australian X models come with ba20d (S2) bulbs.

The 250X will not run an HID with the stock electrical system. The power feeding the OEM light is 12 VAC, the HID will require 12 VDC. Stock your bike does not have enough DC power to run the light and keep the battery charged. The stock bulb is a H6M.

Thanks Ricky I ordered one of your stator kits. But I have since upgraded to a H4 bulb and I'm now considering this bi-xenon kit: http://www.ebay.com....#ht_4704wt_1037

It says it uses an AC ballast. Any thoughts on this? Would it be better running it on DC?

It means the ballast outputs AC which is a must for bulb life. All ballast take DC in, some take both AC and DC. H4 bi-xenon is a very good light, probably the most poweful option there is without completely blinding the other drivers. Of course it needs a decent reflector, but most H4's are pretty good.

Wow! Brighter than my HID eh? Cool! And only $325 more expensive! Such a Deal!
Sadly, not all of us are sponsored Honda or KTM racers with Hyper Inflation budgets.
My advice? Shop around and see how to get around these Crack Dealers. :ride:

Yes brighter
Very true cost to build is alot more for the latest and greatest technology.
We understand that all customers arent sponsored.
Just wanted to let him know another option in lights.
Thanks

Ok so I've got Ricky's stator kit installed. Also the H4 Hi/Lo HID kit is installed, but I've got a problem.

The light will only turn on once engine speed is up to 3000 rpm. Also the relay for the HID kit is buzzing. Does this mean its not getting enough power?

How is the light wired? Is it wired direct from the battery with a switch in between?

Yes it's from the battery. I ran the positive wire from the battery and through the key switch and the ground wire to a bolt on the triple clamp

If it helps, here is some information:

my battery is a Katana YTX5L-BS: 4 Ah, 45 CCA
and the relay is a CR1912 (Max-40A)
The positive lead to the relay has a 10 Amp blade fuse
This is the HID kit: http://www.ebay.com....#ht_4704wt_1037
And the stator and regulator is from Ricky Stator

Check out www.airtime-hid.com

I am running this on my WR 450 and it is sweet!!!  It has hi and low switching that can each be turned on seperately or together if your bike is capable of powering it.  On the CRF 250X you will need to look to Baja Designs or Ricky Stator for stator upgrades, but once you go with the HID you will wonder how you ever rode without it.

Have you performed the DC conversion? Or is it directly from the battery? If its not directly off of the battery, HID light ballasts require dv voltage. My hid kit is from PW_Garfield from KTMTalk.com As long as the ignition switch is on (if you have one) and hid light will run straight off of the battery. You can damage your hid ballast if your feeding ac voltage thru it.

If you are powering it directly from the battery, is power from the battery to the ballast running throught the key switch? The key switch might not be rated for the amperage required, or voltage is dropping. To see if voltage is dropping, with the light on, put a volt meter on the red and black wires of the ballast leads going to the battery. Clear as mud?

I thought the DDM kit kinda sucked, sure the light was bright to the eye but just didn't shine enough down the road, I finally started to push the headlight down to get it more focused on the road, works better now, you have to adjust the headlight angle to get the best view but they are bright, you also have to cut the wires on the DDM kit as it is a half of an automotive kit, best to order the 4300K, I got the 5000K and it seems too blue for me it was supposed to be the brightest white kit but not really, still kit was around $60 with shipping, decent mod BUT...I did install some Rigid Designs aftermarket 10 watt high output LEDS that just put the HID to shame, if you want better lighting, spend some money on high quality LED aux lights instead, get the narrow beam lights, the wide angles are OK when slow but don't put the light far enough down the road but still VERY BRIGHT!

Hey 2004 crf250r
Just wanted to let you know theres some cool led options out there that can be dimmed from 5%-100% therefore not blinding on coming traffic.
heres a link to our crfx kit http://www.bajadesig...fx-Squadron-Kit
I just wanted to let you know about the led option because some of the HID options are over the $400 dollar range and for within $20 you can get led lights that will blow hids out of the water.
If you have any questions feel free to ask
Thanks
Mike
