Uncomfortable gear = gear that stays in the closet.  And it won't do you any good in there.

Take time to find comfortable equipment, then you're more likely to wear it.

I can't do the mx elbow pads.  But the local paintball shop has elbow pads that are a lot thinner, they're basically a sleeve with about 1/4" of foam on the elbow/forearm.  Not as protective as the mx pads, but these I can wear all day.  And when I wear them, they do a better job in a crash than the crappy ones sitting in my closet.

Ill put out a +1 for the Fox Titan jacket. It puts all your gear on in one easy motion and keeps everything snug. It is a little warmer than a chest protector but I wouldnt ride without it. My elbows would be toast from a couple of minor offs.

wearing more gear make me ride more aggressive, because im not worried about getting hurt

thor chest protector, knee pads, alpinestar tech 8 boots and raceface mt bike elbow/forarm guard(way better than any motorcycle elbow guards) and kidney belt

i've been is some crazy crashes and came out uninjured

i do wear the underjersey chest protector in the winter fits better under my enduro jacket

For those with the fox air frame, what size are you guys running for a good fit?  I don't have any offroad shops around with a good selection to just try a bunch on.  How do the shoulders fit?  The cheap ARC racing one I have now has way to small of shoulder radius but the rest fits well.

I'm 5'11" and run about 165 in gym clothes.  what do you guys suggest?

Looks like you never got an answer. I just bought an Airframe today from a local shop. I did a good amount of research, it seemed to be the best for my needs. I happen to be a believer in the shoulder protection. I weigh in at 185 and am 5'11, am comfortable in a medium. I thought I'd need a large but medium fit better. Shoulders are broad and extend beyond laterally and front and back. Besides the judge dredd look, it's a great piece of protection. I also attached my EVS rc3 race collar to it, we'll see how it goes. I'm not sold on the merits of the high end expensive Leatts or Astar and while I don't know how this one will perform under duress for neck protection, I noticed it nicely covers both clavicles and lends a lot of protection there. At $25 on motosport.com, it's hard to go wrong. Good luck.

the more gear the better: however...

Sounds like you don't wear much in the way of gear at all. Which, hey, your choice but as someone who shattered my elbow on a mild, low-speed trail ride, I can tell ya "don't need" is always a fallacy riding offroad. Always.

it does depend on the trail ride, typicaly when i hit the trails on my bike, im spotting a buddy who is 4 wheeling, or ridding with buddies new to the sport. BUT there are some trails, im in full gear and scared to fall.... it just depends
