2007WR / YZ suspension swap dilemma

Recommended Posts

Recently purchased A set of OEM forks and shock off a 07 YZ450, for my 07 WR450. There is no way, I can get these re-valved now($). I am 200lbs w/o gear, so my stock suspension is way soft rear, and lands a little harsh in the front. The rear sags almost to max w/o anyone on it,and the front is very wheelie happy. Have not installed YZ parts yet, but think it should be an improvement. If anyone has been down this road?,I would appreciate some advice on a start point on fork and shock settings. I am 54yrs old, so I don't get real crazy when I go practice falling down. Also I only ride woods trails.

you can always throw a yz spring on the rear and just play with the clickers. The WR suspension is very underrated for some reason. i race desert with mine and stock it was great. i had it revalved just to improve my speed.

I see your point, but to change only the spring seems like more effort than changing shock as a unit.I think the 1st owner was a big fan of jumping as OEM skid pan had heavy ware, and he moved on to a YZ model. Also as mentioned static sag is near max even after + 1" of spring preload. When I turn hard on a berm or rut, I can feel (hear) spring coils touch,so more peload is not a good,Thinks I. Back to original question.Should I use my WR manuel for settings or get copy of YZ manuel? I thought it best to ask here as even with YZ manuel, info if for a YZ model.

Your spring coils should never touch unless the spring is broken or it is very undersized. They are VERY tough. I think you are hearing chain slap, or one of the linkage bearings is bad. With the bike on a stand, can you move the tire up and down at all?

The manual is no help for settings. You will find better suggestions here if you take some time and read up.

Thanks for all your sugestions, will take all into count.More would be kindly welcomed. This is my plan.Swap all suspension and go to mid-settings,then adjust back and forth to find a happy place. In the process of swap I plan also to lube and replace all rear end pivot, bushings, and bearings, replace chain and sprockets, chain slider and rollers. The noise I complained about was like a gnashing, not a grind or sqeek.Could be a roller or slider too, but none show abnormal ware, includeing shock spring. That is as far as damage on spring, but it is realy weak.BTW I don't have the sag numbers in my head, but will get them over this weekend and post.Ok 98? The  is in the details, right.
