As I understand it, the divider plate really helps simplify jetting by separating -- so to speak -- the circuits. The divider plate mod is real popular with the case-reed CRs 'cuz they can be a pain to get the jetting sorted.

The Mikuni TMX is the likely culprit of bad jetting on the 02-07 CRs. Folks often swap them out for a Keihin PWK airstriker.

I have ridden an 08 ktm 300xcw back to back with the yz  295 ported mid to top and the yz even ported mid to top has it everywhere especially up top.  The KTM is smooth and a perfect offroad bike no doubt byt  I would defiantly mod the head and maybe even consider the SX ignition if it was my primary bike.

boring and plating. he also mods the coolant jackets. not really sure why you would want a sleeve in this day in age?

That was the point of my question. I wouldn't want a sleeve. It was reported in one of the other EG threads a few months ago that he was going to start doing that on the 295s.

i rode a 08 like that recently, nice smooth power band and made good power but soft compared to my stock 250, with the big bore and carb mod with the wr gears i can't wait to test it out, enduro next week and its still in a 1000 pieces, gotta get it finished this weekend and at least run it a few minutes before i head off the the races with it. going to be fun .

I can confirm that he still does the plating by default...
My mid-top/racegas 295cc package built on my own used parts arrived back home the first week of April.

Bored/plated with nice looking port work:

Can't wait to get home at the end of the month to install it, jet it and go racing.

By the way, my new piston arrived today.  Coated, ti-rings, everything.   I wish I had two so I coudl keep one on display.  It really is a work of art.  At my advanced age, and slow speed, the thign will probably outlive me.

^^^^^^^ is that an off the shelf piston from wiseco?

No, not exactly.   It is wiseco, but made to Eric Gorrs specs and design.    The coatings and ti-nitride rings are some serious upgrandes from my original 295 piston.  This piston, and I believe rings,  are now the standard 295 piston.

Just for fun, price an optioned up piston from Max Power/RPM.

The reduced deck height is the key to milling the o-ring grooves out plus the oil holes next to the power valves.
They do look great.

Hey Cwtoyota how about a few more pics of the cylinder.Id like to see what the exhaust port looks like.Actually Id like too see as much as possible,Id like to compare it to my Yz 285 that I had ported by Eric Gorr.I know it wont show me much, but ive always been curious of the porting differences between the 285 and 295.

The new big bore kit also comes with a Cometic MLS style head gasket instead of the O-rings anymore, I was really impressed with the piston as well being fully coated with the nice rings....

I got to put 2 hours on my bike today and it feels so nice, I am in Havasu and there is a lot of riding near my house so I got to put some miles on it, rode everything from tight technical singletrack to open washes and I love the way the bike feels everywhere powerwise, I got the "Mo betta" porting and I also retarded timing 2 degrees to smooth it out and it works like a dream, has the power to pull me up any hill, and also has great rev, the 11oz flyweight really helps the bike track well without loosing steam if I have the bike in a high gear.

I am thinking about getting an extra head and having it set up for race fuel since that is what i will normally be running (100 oct), only takes a few minutes to swap out, although I am unsure that the MLS style headgasket can be reused, I dont think it can...

But I am definately going to send out my carb to RB and have that overbore and divider done to it as well to see if I can get a little more out of the motor on top.  All in all I couldnt be happier with my new YZ/WR295.  One thing I really notice is the gap between 4th and 5th gear, you had better be in the top of fourth before you even think about shifting otherwise you will totally bog, lol. But if you rev it out in 4th you can click 5th on the pipe no problem.

I am probably going to go ride again tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn to try and beat the heat, supposed to be 112 degrees..luckily before I did the big bore kit I had already upgrgaded to the oversized radiators that hold 40% more fluid so no problem with overheating even in the heat doing slow tight stuff which makes me really feel the bike is solid and reliable, I was going to ride the 450 on the 2nd ride, but I like the YZ so much I rode it again!  I will try and get spme GoPro footage of some single track around here.

BTW (sorry off-topic) but does anyone have an extra cylinder head that will fit a YZ 250 (2005) that I can buy, I want to send it out and get it cut for race fuel!  I want to feel the difference between running race fuel with and without the high compression head, and then the bigger carb, this thing is going to be a beast!!  Wait it is already.

Ohhhh..That makes sense.  I noticed the top of my well-used cylinder, and cylinder as well, looks perfect.

You notice with the reduced crown height the top of the piston actually comes down level with the bottom of the ports now.
On a standard engine the piston crown is a few mm above the bottom of the ports at BDC.

cavemike- is the carb you bought a screw top? does this mean you are losing the tps? i would prefer an old style screw top on my bike. makes changing the needle much easier. i'm not convinced the tps does a whole lot anyhow.
