The Mikuni TMX is the likely culprit of bad jetting on the 02-07 CRs. Folks often swap them out for a Keihin PWK airstriker.

That was the point of my question. I wouldn't want a sleeve. It was reported in one of the other EG threads a few months ago that he was going to start doing that on the 295s.

My mid-top/racegas 295cc package built on my own used parts arrived back home the first week of April.
Bored/plated with nice looking port work:

Can't wait to get home at the end of the month to install it, jet it and go racing.

The reduced deck height is the key to milling the o-ring grooves out plus the oil holes next to the power valves.
They do look great.

I got to put 2 hours on my bike today and it feels so nice, I am in Havasu and there is a lot of riding near my house so I got to put some miles on it, rode everything from tight technical singletrack to open washes and I love the way the bike feels everywhere powerwise, I got the "Mo betta" porting and I also retarded timing 2 degrees to smooth it out and it works like a dream, has the power to pull me up any hill, and also has great rev, the 11oz flyweight really helps the bike track well without loosing steam if I have the bike in a high gear.
I am thinking about getting an extra head and having it set up for race fuel since that is what i will normally be running (100 oct), only takes a few minutes to swap out, although I am unsure that the MLS style headgasket can be reused, I dont think it can...
But I am definately going to send out my carb to RB and have that overbore and divider done to it as well to see if I can get a little more out of the motor on top. All in all I couldnt be happier with my new YZ/WR295. One thing I really notice is the gap between 4th and 5th gear, you had better be in the top of fourth before you even think about shifting otherwise you will totally bog, lol. But if you rev it out in 4th you can click 5th on the pipe no problem.
I am probably going to go ride again tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn to try and beat the heat, supposed to be 112 degrees..luckily before I did the big bore kit I had already upgrgaded to the oversized radiators that hold 40% more fluid so no problem with overheating even in the heat doing slow tight stuff which makes me really feel the bike is solid and reliable, I was going to ride the 450 on the 2nd ride, but I like the YZ so much I rode it again! I will try and get spme GoPro footage of some single track around here.
BTW (sorry off-topic) but does anyone have an extra cylinder head that will fit a YZ 250 (2005) that I can buy, I want to send it out and get it cut for race fuel! I want to feel the difference between running race fuel with and without the high compression head, and then the bigger carb, this thing is going to be a beast!! Wait it is already.

Ohhhh..That makes sense. I noticed the top of my well-used cylinder, and cylinder as well, looks perfect.

On a standard engine the piston crown is a few mm above the bottom of the ports at BDC.
