I was thinking about a new bike or maybe just an upgrade with the 310 kit(alot cheaper)So i have some questions i need help with.(1)how good is the mapping on the athena ecu i live to far from a dealer to mess around with efi settings.(2)can it be installed with motor in frame?(3) what kind of fuel range could i expect on the stock tank i average 65 miles to a tank now(4) is the power gain worth the money,i feel the te 250 is down on power compared to other 250s,i dont want to just bring it up to the level of other 250s i want somthing between a 250 and a 450 if you know what i mean.    Thanks

My dealer George @ Uptite Racing has done many of these.   Mine has the ECU from Athena but I think is stuck at 14.7 AFR.   I've left it on because he has been able to access FB1, 2, and 3, contrary to most information which states only FB1 is available.   My settings are

FB1 126.5
FB2  116.0
FB3  106.0

The bike was very lean with just the Athena ECU running things and of course with the original situation of only being able to access FB!.  I can't tell you how he gets the other fueling points to work but I have separately verified the FB1,2, and 3 as I have IBeat and have seen it with my own eyes.

Where are you in CA?   Think about talking to George (714 540-2920) or stopping into his shop in Santa Ana if it is possible.   Power is significantly more and something he has done to his own bikes.   Pretty sure you can leave engine in bike for install.  I have an extra 2009 TE310 ECU that can be of use to you if you choose to go that way as it DEFINITELY  will access the FB!, 2, and 3 fueling points.   It's only drawback is that there is a likelihood of the control panel blinking, which is really only a distraction.

I live in crescent city on the oregon border,4hrs from the nearest husky dealer.I was hoping for plug and play ecu that has good mapping.I have done business with george his bar risers and dampner mounts are top notch. How far could you go on the stock tank ?

I would guess around 60-65 with the 310.  I was getting over 100 on the 3 gal IMS where you're actually using 2.8 or so.   Somewhat depends on gearing.   You're getting around 50 cc's added or 20% increase so seems right to expect around a 20% decrease in mpg but probably not that much in real life.   I was getting over 70 on stock tank with the lean factory settings as a 250.

I know if you search around, (esp. on Cafe Husky) you will find some info on mileage for people that have done the Athena.   And George would likely remember something like this as racing these bikes it's critical to know what mileage they can get.

If I come up with anything on mileage I'll link it.

Can the stock 08 ecu be programed for the 310 needs.if so can i just send it(ecu) to him or does he need the whole bike.also if the ecu is programed with new settings will it go back to a default setting if the battery is disconnected?

No on just sending the ECU but it likely can work...like mine did.  My bike sat at his shop for a week or two as he kept trying to get the software to open FB2 and FB3 (sort of 40% throttle and 100%) settings....one day it just did.  Kelly @ Motosportz sold some Athena kits that came with a 2009 ECU so that may be another way to go.  ECU settings via iBeat stay, this is flash type memory IIRC.  You are only changing fueling with iBeat, not the advance curve.

Wow, this could turn into a hassel. If i replace the bike it has to have a plate looked at the ktm 350 but the ecu needs to be changed out with one from the xc model, besides that they are pricey.the 12 txc 310 looks just right but no plate,i really dont want to go with a te again and have to modify a bunch of stuff to make it what i want.I like the bike i have now and the way its set-up, its just do to have the top end freshend up and maybe a little more displacment add. These changes to the mapping does it have to be done by a husky dealer? There are other dealers within 2 hrs of me.

Just need iBeat, which is Mikuni FI SOFTWARE.

Call around and maybe ask on Cafe Husky.

Might be able to find someone local in No. Cal or Oregon that has it

This guy, Home Finance, screen name.

He's done it.

Maybe he has some insight for you.

Thanks for your time.I'm gonna do some calling around after summer is over its gonna be a new bike or a up-date on this one.hate to get rid of this one love the ergo's,LTR has the suspension perfect, plus all the goodies i added on.It takes alot of time and extra money to get a bike to a guys liking, then you sell it for peanuts.

If you've looked at KTM, you might also check out Beta.  A 350 RS will likely be my next bike.  Carbed and you can do the BYOB and customize it.

The kit will be the leas expensive route and getting a 2010 TXC race ECU is the best. These older motors have good torque but the all around performance is not up to 2012 bikes. KTM350 is a great bike and for me, made me ride faster vs. my TE250. For a DS the best 300cc bike out there is a Beta unless you need EFI. Personally I passed on the new X-lite motors for a DS and was going the Beta route untill I found a used very low milage TE310.

Milage on my 2008 TE250 was 80 on the road, 60 trail speeds and 45 race pace, this per tank with 1/2 +/- gallon left. My new 2010 TE310 set-up the same way gets about 70 miles on the road, 50 trail speed and 35 race pace. I ride this bike harder at race pace vs. the 250, motor likes fuel when pushed hard.

did they make a txc 310 in 2010 ?i thought they only made the te 310 which
would have lean mapping. It would be easy if i could just plug in a ECU with good mapping and not have to drive 4 hrs to a dealer to have it set up.

No they did not but you can buy a race ECU that is almost a plug and play. If you do not have a race exhaust then you need to set the EFI. This ECU has better power delivery and not EPA compliant.
