How many of you used Dunlop Geomax  MX 51 and then switched to another tire, never to go back ?

I like my 51, got 15 hours out of it. I have a race this weekend and I am thinking about trying a new tire. Then I think about staying with what I know.  Anyhow, let me know.

Please, if you have never ridden an MX 51 don't just pop on here raving about the tire you use and how good it is. I know what I will be replacing it with, if I do.

I hate my MX51 front and have a set of 403/404's on the way. I will let you know how I feel about the Bridgestone's next week.

IMO the MX51 isn't all that great. It's like most Dunlops, it costs a lot, it wears out quick, and it performs alright. I would never pay for an MX51, the only ones I use are ones I get for free. I'll take a Michelin MH3, Maxxis SI, or Perelli MXMH rear tire any day over an MX51. I think that these are better performing tires all around and they last longer than the MX51.

I think the best bang for your buck right now front and rear are Michelin MH3's. All other tires have gone up in price and the Michelins have stayed the same so far.

I used D756, D742 when I first started riding a few years ago. Liked them better than the Maxxis I tried one time.
Switched to MX51 and I don't like the front tire. It would just never grip rite wile leaning the bike over.  I tired everything to get that tire to feel better, tire pressure, sag, clamp offset, rebound, where I sat on the seat in corners.  It made me feel like I forgot how to ride.
Switched the front to a 403?? And 51 rear and got all my front grip back.

I gave up on MX51s and 403/404s because the rears chunk immediately.

Lately I've been using Pirelli's.  I'm currently using the MxExtra rear and MXMH 554 front.  The old MXMH 454 front (and 454 rear for that matter) didn't chunk, but every single knobbie cracked like it was about to chunk.  The new 554 front hasn't chunked/cracked yet, and actually I'm curious to try the new MXMH 554 rear to see if they hold up better than the older design.

I did not like the geo 51 front tire but the geo 51 rear was fair to good. The rear geo 51 is my default purchase when the Bridgstone 404s are not available. So far this year getting Brigestones has been hit and miss For intermed to hard pack tracks.

I like the Bridgestone M403 front tire a whole lot.  So far I've had very good results with it.

Ive used both the 51s and the 404s  Right now Im using the pirelli mx32 softs.. they seem to work light years better.. the front could be a tiny bit better in hardpack but its loads more predictable than the 51s or the 404s..  Im gonna try the d952 seems like they used to last forever but its been 4-5 years since I used one..

My '13 KX450 came with the Bridgestones...I was psyched about trying them out. Truth is, I missed my MX51 rear......I ordered a set of Dunlops, MX51 for the rear and an MX31 for the front. Due to some wheel issues regarding some crap wheels I bought, I have not been able to test out the front....I did try the new MX51 on the rear with the Bridgestones up front, and I liked it better.

When it comes to tire discussions, the results seem to be a lot like oil discussions. Everyone has their preference.

I first tried the MX51 for the rear to replace a worn tire on my '09. It made such a huge difference, it seemed like I was riding a new bike....It was THAT incredible. So - ended up putting an MX51 up front and never had any problems.....It was far better than the stock tire.....However, it seemed the rear really made the big difference. So - here I am like you, simply trying different things out to find my groove....Hopefully I will have my MX31 operable before long....

My bike had an MX51 when I bought it.  Replaced it with another MX51.  Didn't last very long.  Tried the 403/404 combo, absolutely hated the front, made do with the rear... still real sketchy though.  The rear didn't last real long.

I wouldn't recommend either for dualsport use.

I currently have a mx51 on one of my bikes. I like the 71's, but the 51 sucks. It doesn't hook up well in any terrain and lasts about 1/2 as long as the mx71.

I pretty much ruined the back one in about 50 hours (came stock on my '12 300xc) . Went back to Maxxis IT, like I've had on my past few bikes.

tires are terrain specific, yet nobody seems to mention the dirt they ride on,

I had MX51's front and back and the rear seemed to be a pretty good tire decent life and good traction but i could not ever get comfortable with the front if it was loose or dry regardless of the pressure. the only time if felt ok was in nice prepped dirt on a track. my current favorite is Michilen MH3 followed by bridgestone 404/403. my brother in law and i both put MX51's on at the same time front and rear and both of us agreed that the front end felt like it was going to wash out. I probably wont ever buy a dunlop again.

I'm happy with my front and rear 51s, partly because they're available in the weird sizes I like.
