Hello i just got a 2006 crf250x i want to make some more power out of it. Will a head pipe off a 2006 crf 250r work on the bike, i did the air box mod and pink wire and also jetted it.  i was not sure what cam to use and head pipe and exhaust.  i got a 06 head pipe cheap.  Just wanted to know what will work the best for tight eastern woods riding.  My other bike is a ktm 200 mxc i would like to get more out of my crf250x  like my ktm 200.

For tight east woods the stock x cam and long headpipe would be better if your using the low end alot.  If you pace is fast and your riding mid-top like most 250f's like, the r cam and pipe give a little extended rpm where the x cam signs off.  Personally I have set it up both ways and feel you can get use to riding either setup.   The R headpipe is more tucked in if your prone to denting the x pipe, it's a good option just for that.  For the most part the head pipe is a match for the cam, but it doesn't hurt to mix match if desired. In more open terrain with tall gearing I felt the x cam and pipe pulls the wide gearbox gaps better than the r cam setup.  With the r cam I had to wind it up more to catch each shift.  what's cool about the little crf is there is so many tuning possibilties to play with.

don't forget gearing as a mod too, if your x is stock you might want to regear for the tight stuff so your riding 2-3 instead of the more gappy 1-2

TRBXJ550. I just rejetted my 05 CRF250X. Opened Airbox, opened difusser, left the pink wire alone. 000 to 1000" 42/135/5th position. I ordered a 13 tooth front sprocket and will be getting 51 rear sprocket in the coming weeks. I ride South Jersey tight woods almost exclusively. My Helment Cam vid before the rejet Honda CRF250X & KTM300EXC South Jersey Pine Barrons, Tight Woods Trail, Near ATCO. I opened the air box more after I shot the vid, but the difusser had been opened. I was running a 40/132/4th position at the time with stock gearing.
I am hoping the rejet and re-gearing will allow me better use of the loe end.
What jetting set up are you now running?

You got an 06 R pipe?  Isn't that the year they had dual mufflers?  The 04/05 R head pipes are the only ones you can put on your X...  Can't do the 06 or 07 R pipe because of the mufflers.  No wonder you got it so cheap, that year oem pipes aren't in any demand

My jetting is 140/42/4th postion. i ride sea level to 3000 ft.  Gearing is stock.  It also has the difuser cut out.  Woulld a fmf power bomb and q seris full exhuast system help in power?  i would like to keep it quite.   I seen on  rocky mountain atv that they had a Lexx MXe Slip-On Silencer With Mid-Pipe with the quite tip.  Wonder if anyone runs that setup and if so what jetting?  Would there be a benefit by putting a R head pipe on it with that slip on or is it just to keep it tucked in not to smash it?

The R head pipe adds more top end to the X, but takes away from the bottom end.  It depends on what kind of riding you do.  I ride tight single track, so I'm keeping my X pipe.  If I were riding desert, I'd probably go w/ an R pipe

You'll notice the difference in the r and x headpipes more with an open uncorked exhaust.   With the stock X muffler with baffle installed, even drilled, the greater backpressure in the pipe  makes the effect of the headpipe length less noticable.
