I recently switched from a 07 yz450f to a 05 rm250. I have noticed with the two stroke Im wanting to be super far over the front of the bike. I have my bars rotated forward. but I feel kinda big for the setup I have, alittle cramped.  Im 6 foot. I have renthal 983 bars, should I look into larger bars and maybe lowered foot pegs? Or Is this just a common felling going from 4t to 2t bikes? Any other setup tips.

I would get taller bars or if you like your bend just get risers. Start there then maybe look in to lower pegs. But they can be expensive. I'm 5'11 and ride an rm250 with stock bar height. Works for me. I had an 07 yz450. It felt roomier, but I still prefer the rm.
As for set up, just make sure the suspension is fresh, jet it well and ride it. Great bikes.

i don't like what bar risers do to the feel of the front end, just my 2cents.

i think you have poto/stewart bend. If you want to move your bars, making sure your bar has the correct sweep is just as important as height. Raising the bars isn't that helpful if it's just strait back into your lap. You also want less sweep so the bars are more forward.

According to the Renthal chart the 983 stewart/ villapoto bars dont have much sweep and there not that low.  Im thinking about getting an adjustable top clamp so I can move the bars forward 5mm, to open up the cockpit some, what do you think?

That's what i run on my yz250 along with protaper windham/rm mid and really like those two together. So the upper clamps is definitely a good place to start.  You might have/want to go to 1 1/8 in diameter bars.

Ive seen some deals on top clamps. the protaper accutrax are cheap and rubber mounted but come in 7/8. Ive seen cheap protaper rigid mounts clamps in 1 1/8. But Im thinking I like the rubber mounts. What do you think of the Renthal RC high bend bars?

I don't know if ur really used to the 2 stroke or not, but I noticed that I feel like that when I'm not trying to go fast enough. Oddly enough, when I try to push harder, I feel way more comfortable.

When Im standing and charging I feel cramped, bars in lap feeling. Im going to look into taller bars and the clamps. I noticed the windham bars are differant on the renthal chart than the protaper chart. On the renthal site the windhams are lower than the 983's. but on the protaper site the windhams are much taller. from looking at both charts it looks like the 983's are low bars. I like the bike alot otherwise.

i felt like the rc high was a little too tall while sitting, but that was on my 450, never tried them on my 250. But on the 450 it was harder for me to muscle the bike from side to side and it felt chopperish while sitting, i didn't have confidence laying it down into ruts. Other people swear by rc high tho. On a two stroke it might not be as big of a deal.

I just ordered this off of ebay for 56.25 total, brand new.  I'm figuring it should be a good start, I think they are adjustable offset. Maybee I should go with the Pro Taper SE windham bars instead of the RC high's?Posted Image

I got the clamps and they are adjustable offset, I have them set in the position farthest forward.  I was also having a problem with the oem bar mounts twisting. The Pro tapers look awsome too. I think there called the Accutrax. Cant wait to try them out.

The Pro Taper clamps greatly improved the feel of the front end and the bike in general for me. The front end feels alot more settled and less nervous, very nice. I used the yellow rubber and it feels great, minimizes vibration.  I have them set as far forward as they will go helped with stability and opened up the cockpit.. I feel like I can go saster while staying more relaxed. Great upgrade for sure.  I still feel like the bars should be higher up so I order up a Renthal RC High bar today. Should be here monday or tuesday.

I like the rubber mount alot. You could run the red rubber if you like a firmer feel with these pro taper clamps, they give you options.
