Thanks guys, its nice to talk to someone who can understand what I'm going through. I definitely agree with the general consensus, it seems some time off to get my head on straight will be best, Im sure the rest will work itself out and i'll be back on a bike sometime. In the mean time i've been looking into rc planes and trucks. Seems like a great way to recover and something you can do to chill out?
I feel you, I'm on the couch right now with a broken foot along with 4 broken toes (time for some better boots). My forehead also got quite a few stitches. The recovery time from my injuries is usually about the same amount of time i need to set my head straight and remember why I've dedicated myself to the sport since i was just a little guy. And I second the RC idea. I got myself a traxxas monster truck and I have a blast with that thing, especially while im injured. Be prepared to do as much or more maintenance as a dirt bike on it though.

OK, after reading some of this I would like to share my expierence. 20 years ago I had a accident on my tt600. I shattered my shoulder. hyperexteded my elbow. I was out cold my helmet cracked from the impact of hitting a large rock after being thrown from the bike due to a deep grass covered rut. I landed 30 feet from the bike. I awoke choking on blood and dirt. then came to again in the emergency room. the short of it my arm was saved by reconstructive surgery I had headaches for along time. I had to sell the bikes to pay the bills and went back to flying until diabetes came into my life. the numbness in my feet cost me some of my toes. I am getting back into riding but was worried that I wouldnt be able to ride after the surgery on my big toe. after looking at some of the pics and vids on here I think I can get it together. this past year I got a basket case xr200r and after getting it going I found a wr250f that really needed a home and its almost done and the little bit that I have rode it makes my life abit more complete. thanks to all you guys on here that helped when I had questions and to those that shared there stories. sorry for the long post   Wrench

I'm a desert racer not an MX racer but I had an accident last November that fractured my T7 and T9 vertebrae and have had time to go through the process of emotions after an injury that could have paralyzed me. I won't got into all the details or thought trails, but what it came down to for me was this.

I had an accident.

I was not pushing beyond my limits, I was not having a Nitro Circus moment, nor ignoring logic, I just had an accident. People get hurt every day getting out of the shower, driving on the road, even eating dinner.

I took some time off to heal and have since done two races which were harder than my first two, but I'm getting back into race shape. It's not easy and I still get scared sometimes but I'm working back into it again. I approach certain parts of a race a bit differently with perhaps more caution than I did before, which I think is a good thing. I'm certainly not going to stop, because I'm worried that if I were to stop, I'd get mowed down by a bus the next day.

I know that I will not be pushing things as hard as the day I crashed. I was in alot better physical shape and alot younger then I am now. the rebuld of my XR200r basket case was great therapy I was a mechanic for 25years and still love all things mechanical just getting one to run after it was a box of parts makes me very happy.my wr250f is the one I am going to finnish as I am recovering from the surgery I am having this week. not much left but tires, bars, some clutch work and when the stitches are out we will go for a long enough ride to sort myself out as well as her. preperation as in protective gear an going real real easy should keep things in check. I thank god for the second chance.  Wrench

Well I have since come to just about a full recovery. I still get the occasional headache, most starting at the point of the skull fracture, some a lot deeper. I sold my YZ250 and bought a 09 ktm 450 xcw. It felt good to get out and play around on it but unfortunately it overheated and took out the head gasket. I havent been riding now in months and its tough. Riding is more then a hobby, its therapy in itself. I miss MX quite a bit, miss being out on the track cutting some hard laps. I'm quite torn as to what to do. The XCW feels like a wicked trails machine but doesnt have that feel of my yz250 that i miss oh so much ha ha. Getting hurt sucks and there is a fine like between being reckless and riding within your boundaries and having fun. The hardest part is finding that balance...
