2003 WR 450 Woodruff Key / affected VIN numbers

According to the Yamaha Tech Bulletin I have, the effected bikes are VIN # 00014 thgough 2694 . The other bikes were fixed at the factory. Has anyone with a VIN outside this range had a problem?

Were'nt there about 2690 total WR's sold last year? ?

That makes sense to me mine was 25--.. It's fixed now with new crank and flywheel and lapped and loctite and it seems fine.. My dealer was really right on with this deal.. I did change the idler gear and have noticed that pulling the hot start in when starting helps prevent backfires.. I will say once again that these bikes rip...I sure like the performance!!! :D?

Are you sure they replaced the crank and flywheel...because why whould they have to lap and locktight a new flywheel/crank

Yes I'm sure, I watched them.. My crank was pretty scored from spinning it 4 times but that was mainly due to the fix not being done correctly. They measured my crank end and it was .4mm smaller than the new crank.. I think that may be the fix from the factory, the first ones were machined out of specs.. The lapping and loctite are SOP now to prevent any possible problems.. Took the bike out yesterday and of course I loved it, I've always said that.. Did get some backfires starting but it kept together.. I did discover that when riding and the bike is warmed up, if you pull the hot start it seemed to start easier and with NO backfiring, That kinda makes the too lean excuse seem illogical doesn't it.. Anyway, I love this bike when it's running and expect it will keep doing so, if not I'll have another temper tantrum.. ?:D How do you do that quote thing, I'm too slow to figure it out???

It's a funny thing but my bike is serial no. 1208 and I was the first TT member with a WR450 and I have not had even one little bit of thouble with the flywheel key. I had my bike almost a week before anyone else did and in that time I had it at Steahly Off Road (makers of flywheel weights). He had the flywheel off to make a prototype weight in case there was a need for a weight, as it turned out it has plenty of weight but the long and short of it is my serial number is right in the middle and I have had no adverse flywheel key problems at all... I am sure there are lots more bikes with out the problems than with it, but why complain if it works fine. ?

My number was 1276. Finally they replaced the crank and the rotor after I went walking twice. (I am disabled). I payed $63.00 for the new gear and put this in myself. Yamaha customer relations refused to pay for this. (It's probably the cause of it all).. All Owens wanted to know , last week is had it failed again. Love the bike , hate YAMAHA. Will not buy BLUE again. ?:D :D
