hey so as of now ive got a 2003 cr250r.. anyways i just sold my 2006 crf250r a while ago an was thinking about picking up a 2006 crf450r.. but i decided i might try a yamaha.. so im just wondering is the 08 yz450f a good bike? the one im looking at is bone stock with 15 hours on it for 3400.. so is this a good year? does it handle well and feel fairly nimble? anything i should know about it? and is a 2009 any better? if i get it im thinking i will just do a jd jet kit, carb mod, and a slip on muffler... pry white brothers or
fmf, possibily yoshimura.. so let me know what you guys think please. any input would be great

and im 17 years old, intermediate rider, 6'1 and 150 pounds.. plan on doing some mx and a bit of trails..

2008 is a great bike. Better forks than the Honda's, longer lasting top end, more neutral handling.
Much better all-around bike.
The Honda's are faster and more aggressive, and more nervous, and have a smaller cockpit.
The FCR carb needs a little fine tuning, but once that is done it runs better than the FI bikes do, IMHO.

what do you mean smaller cockpit? do you mean it is just more compact? and one of the reasons i was a yamaha is because they are less aggressive as you stated.. im a lighter rider and a crf would pry wear me out way too quickly..

I mean the distances from the pegs, to triples, to axles, is smaller on the Honda, than the Yamaha. Suzuki is right in the middle and Kawi is the biggest (by far) sized cockpit.

i see you have a 05 crf450x? i was looking at this 06 crf450r but it just sold.. but i can get a 05 crf450r, clean bike with low hours for 2300.. its saving money.. but do you think the yz450f would still be the better buy? 08 yz450f for 3400 with 15 hours total on it.. bone stock

Go YZ.
The CRF450X is large compared to the CRF450R. The bikes don't share hardly any parts, they just look like they do.
I'm in this forum cause I am reading up on the '08 specifically as I look for the '08 YZ450 or KX450 (which I have owned).
The KX is HUGE.

Is the 450X dimensionally larger than the 450R or just heavier?

I always thought the YZF's had the largest cockpit. You're saying the Kawi's are significantly larger?

The Kawi's are significantly longer, taller and more stretched out.

The 450X is larger in all dimensions compared to the R.

Ya I wasn't saying I was going to get a 450x.. im leaning towards getting the yz.. just that I would be able to get a 05 crf450r for 2300 in pretty good condition
