so ive seen that the curb weight has dropped from 2012 to 2013. it went from 249.1 to 248.0. so did the bike actually lose a little over a pound from last year? some people have said not to trust the magazines scales. i hope it got lighter!

This may not meen much to anyone but Honda gained weight for 2013. As wild and new as the Honda is I would be laying my money down on the Kawasaki. Well I will be but it will be on the 250.

i am a honda fan, but i personally think the new bike is absolutely stupid. i hated the dual exhaust on my 06 crf. and tbh, its butt ugly. i was just curious about the weight of the 13 kx450f, not that a pound matters but i would be glad if it dropped a pound. im very interested in the 13 kawasaki. i hate to say it, but i believe kawasaki technology has passed up honda for a good time now....the only thing i like about hondas better would maybe be the build quality (looks wise), because i feel they dont look worn out as fast as the kx. but i take great care of my bikes anyways so that really doesnt matter i guess. the new kxs deinitely look awesome and have some great features!

The lighter weight comes from the new fork.

Just like D-K said, the bike lost of 1lb from 2012 due to the new KYB PSF. The PSF uses air instead of conventional fork springs, which saves a good deal of weight.

1.7 lbs saved with Air Forks... but it got a beefier swingarm

Well if you listen to MXA for what its worth on the shootout for 2012.  The KX was the winner but the other manufacturers they say could of won if they just fixed something.
KX-fastest bike in 12' needed to fix the offset/head angle.  13' added airforks and BNM
CR-choked exhaust, bad clutch.  13'  fixed everything all new bike tests will tell
KTM- 12' big heavy.  13'  factory edition except gray frame and no redbull graphics
YAm- 12' centralized mass handling problems great suspension. 13'  BNG/BNM bold new mapping
RMZ- 12' best handling bike on planet earth but a heavy pig, questionable shifting.  13' ?
So if I were to pick a winner for next yr ?

Yes, the Honda gained weight, but it is still the lightest bike on the market. Plus, the lower center of gravity will make it feel light.

I'm no die hard Honda fan, but I got a feeling that the 2013 CRF450R will redefine 450 class handling in terms of ease of riding fast. I've been saving for a 12 CRF250R, but their new 13 450 has me thinking.

I also think Honda made a silly marketing mistake with the twin exhausts, and it'll distract many buyers from an otherwise really great bike. No doubt there will be many aftermarket single pipe exhaust kits that include a flatter left side number plate.

You are so right about that.
