was 2006 a bad year for kx's? are there any know problems they all share? and how are they for maintenance and rebuilds?

As I recall some of the 06 KX450’s had problems with the piston skirt (or something like that).  Check the KX450 forum out and you will find what I am talking about.  Other than that they were quite reliable and very powerful for their class.  The down side of the 06 is that they only had a 4 speed transmission.  They were fine on the track but could be a bit limited on the trails.  the 07 and up models were 5 speeds.  I owned an 07 and it was a great bike that never gave me any problems.
