I recently purchased a Cobra JR for my grandson. One of his friends told me that this was a good place for getting help or answering concerns. I made the purchase a few weeks ago, and the gentleman I bought it from said that he would recommend (sorry if I use the wrong verbage) replacing the stack of springs and the clutch milk. I was hoping for 2 things. Most importantly should I be concerned that it needs new parts already and secondly where do I get the parts with some technical assistance?
Thank you

I am not a cobra expert but I have been working on my son's KTM 50's for a couple years now.. I would not be concerned about replacing those clutch springs (may be cupped washers instead of springs) because that is just routine maintenance on these little bikes. The clutches on these bikes take a lot of abuse. You will find many different replies to how often to change the springs/washers. Many cobra guys use oil called cobra milk.. so I am sure that is what he was talking about for clutch milk. We usually change our clutch oil after about an hour or two of hard riding. These bikes can be difficult to work on but it is really not too bad if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. Kudos to you getting your grandson a bike!

I truly appreciate your insight. In searching the web I've learned they're called washer stacks so that makes me feel a little hip. I know car mechanics quite well so as long as I have logical instructions I hope to get along fine. Right now we're just having fun with him riding in our fields until he gets a good feel for the cobra. A gentleman in town suggested that I measure the stacks with a micrometer to make sure they're all even. I hate to ask the question, but there has to be a better way doesn't there?
Again I truly appreciate any help I can get.

Yeah if you can work on cars, you will be fine working on the bike. The washer stacks is pretty much the only way with these bikes. I think the newer cobras have a different style clutch but that has only been in the last few years. It may be less maintenance but I'm not sure on that. As for measuring the stacks, I just use a good set of calipers instead of mics. The calipers just make it easier to measure. I usually get the stacks within about .002~.003 of each other. If you are happy with the way the bike runs now, then I would suggest you leave the same style and size stack that is in it. You can put a zip tie thru the washers when you take them out so they will stay in order. Then stack the new washers in the same configuration and overall height. A new set of washers should last a long time if he is just riding in the field and you keep the oil changed.
BTW, not sure why they moved this post to the Chinese section?!?!? Cobra's are not Chinese! This may fit better in the General Mini section.
