Hello all. I’ve been away from dirt bikes for around 15 years, but since recently acquiring some land, I’ve got the bug. Here’s my details: I’m 35 years old. 6’5”, 190lb. I started riding dirt when I was around eight years old and sold my last dirt bike at age 20. I rode a lot when I was younger, so I have quite a bit of experience, but that was a long time ago. I would guess that after 15 years I'm back in the beginner category. The land which I will be riding is 75 acres of very hilly pasture and timber. Some of the hills are pretty steep, probably over 25% and 40’ high. Every dirt bike I ever owned was two stroke, and the last was pretty highly modified. I liked tinkering when I was younger, and didn’t mind high-maintenance temperamental bikes, but now I just want a trail bike that I can jump on and ride. I don't need a dual purpose machine. It will be ridden off-road only. My main requirement is reliability, so a low compression air cooled model would probably be my best bet. I'm willing to sacrifice some performance in exchange for low maintenance, to a point. I have been checking out the TTR230 and the CRF230F. The main question is if either of these models would be tall enough given my height, or have enough power given my weight and the terrain. Indecently, my weight fluctuates pretty dramatically and I sometimes weigh closer to 220, so I probably need to take that into account. I’ll entertain any brand and any price range, but under $5,000 would be preferable. Thanks for any suggestions!

You're too big for a 230! I would go for an enduro yamaha wr450, honda cr450x or kawasaki klx450. If you want to go old skool, maybe a honda xr400? You can buy a lot of bike for less than 5k... If you want a 2 stroke, the yz250 should scare ya pretty good!

IMHO You can get an awesome 450's at the minute and well priced but if you have ridden a fair bit you will pick it up pretty quickly. i went from a crf250 to a crf450r back to a crf250r then got a crf450x(dealership was close)but i found i did alot of different riding so i went to a yz250 2 stroke and man i love that bike.......its light, mega quick, easy to jet if you need to,easy to rebuild if that turns you on.....
