Hey guys, im a honda guy so my first time in the 2 stroke kwak forum, be easy on me.

Its coming up to summer and I am looking for a project. I have a 2000 kx 125 and its pretty much a basket case, We bought it off a friend for my dad to ride alongside me when i was on a wee bike and its lay for near 4 years, I reckon its still got all the original parts in it from when it rolled out of the factory.

Basically I'm thinking of a complete overhaul on it and to have it as a second race bike as well as competing in the EVO championship that we have got going over here in Ireland.

It needs/I was planning on doing:

Complete overhaul on the engine . bottom - up;
Brakes;
Suspension;
exhaust;
Plastics.

My question is, Do you think it would be worth the money and time to put into it to get it going again and out onto the race track. Or do you think that its seen its days?

Thanks

With any bike that age, don't think you can sell it and get your money back.  If you put the work into it and ride it, you'll have a good reliable bike.  So plan on keeping it a few years.

It will still be a competitive bike, I think Carmichael rode one.

To be honest I wasn't going to sell it, my dad got it brave and cheap at the time, thing I got it in 2006.
The main reason was a neighbour wanted one, went and bought it and started riding around the roads with it (we live in the country), was riding around his farm and t-boned a stone pillar with it. So my dad bought it more so for his safety, it was banged up, but a new pipe and she was good to go.

I actually took the notion and  went and pulled it from under the covers about an hour ago, started 6th kick and thats with 3-4 year old gas in it :cry:. Have to say the old kawis were real reliable

The bike is definately worth keeping. Those bikes, even in Ireland have parts everywhere. you even have easy access to white plastics to change up the look. Plus, It sounds like you spent all your big bike time on a 4T. Once you ride this and feel how light it is, you will love it.

First, get a service manual, easily downloadable from many sources. Ebay is one. Or some guys are known to email them in a PDF if both are able to send/receive large files. Sorry, I don't have 99-02 PDF. Mine is a hard copy. Rebuilding a 2T is 10x easier than any 4T and twice as cheap. Based on what ou're willing to put into this bike, I've heard of Ireland have a few great shops for modding or if you can do the work yourself, a 134 kit is a great upgrade.

You said it had a running-in with a pole. If it needs front end parts, like I said, these are popular bikes and parts are everywhere. Also, learn to ride this bike wide open like it's supposed to be and it will make you a better rider on your CRF. 125's are great prctice bike because they have to be wound tight all the time and there's nothing like the sound of a 2T wound up tight at full throttle. Probably one of the best vids on youtube is Jimmy Decotis. Check it out.
