230 hard starting when warm, but easy when cold

My 2004 230CRF has always been difficult to start when either hot or cold. It was only after I found this forum did I find out that I'm not alone and the 230's are problematic in this area.  Apparently set up very lean from the factory.  I got the bike for trail riding, but decided to convert it to dual sport with a Baja kit.   Modifications include, a rewound stator to run the light, opening up the air box, a BBR exhaust and Rev box. The carb has been rejetted with a 45 pilot and 120 main with the clip in the middle. Original setup  was a 42 pilot and 102 main. The air/fuel screw is set up per the manual. Valves have been checked and are properly adjusted by the dealer.
I solved one issue in that the bike will now start cold with the choke on first push of the electric start. No muss or fuss. It used to be that I would have to crank and crank almost running the battery down.  But as soon as the bike is warm, here’s the issue. If I turn it off, for example to go into a store 10 minutes. When I try to start the bike, if I don’t choke it, I have to crank and crank. I’ve gotten to the point where the battery almost runs down and I’ve push started it.  Funny thing is it starts easy with no choke on.  The technique I find that works best now if I use the electric start is to choke it, and then crank.  It will then fire.  Running, but just barely and I have to be quick to open the choke (like within seconds) or it will die. If I do it right it then idles smoothly like there was never a problem.
Anyone have a suggestion? If the air/fuel screw adjustment is off can it make that much of difference in starting when hot?

Sounds like symptoms of a dirty carb restricting fuel flow thru the low speed circuits.  I had a similar problem with a XR200 and found a small piece of crud in one of the low speed discharge ports in the venturi, took several attempts to get it out.

My problem has been solved and I'm not ashamed to admit, what was the problem, ME.  I grew up in the age when everything had an accelerator pump and you had to pump the pedal to set the choke or twist the throttle to get things going. As I was reading some of the 230 crf starting threads, I noticed some responses claimed that after dialing in the tune, their bikes would start first push hands off the throttle.  Kind of like a fuel injected car.
My first reaction was no way, but I gave it a whirl today and what a surprise.  Keep my hands away from twisting the throttle and it starts right up!  I went for a bunch of errands around town and started it this way with no problem at least 6 times. I used to keep the bike running while I ran in, to avoid the embarrassment   of trying to start it when it was warm.
I do think the jetting helped considerable with the drivability and power of the 230.
