I just got back into mx after about 12 years. I bought a pair of Gaerne SG-10s and I really liked them until I tried on a pair of Sidi Crossfire TAs. I returned the Sg-10s and absolutely love the Sidis. I wear an 11.5 US in running shoes and bought an 11.5US in the Sidis. Great boot! I got them from my local dealer for $385 out the door.

Another rider here who loves the Sidi's. I've worn the Alpinestars tech 8 and they were good but the comfort of the Sidi and hinged ankle area are what sold me. The Sidi also has a very low profile toe area. I have never worn a pair of Gaerne so I can't compare to that boot. To the poster asking about fitting size my boots are a 10 and I wear a 10 to 10 1/2 in tennis shoes depending on brand.

I wear SG12s and love them. Check extremesupply.com for the best boot prices. They carry boot colors normaly only found in Europe as well. My SQ12s are black and orange!

Another vote for the SG12. Just got a pair and wish I spent the extra $$ a long time ago. No more hammering or pounding my Tech 7 buckles to close. They're EXTREMELY comfortable. Never tried the Sidi's but went with the Gaerne based off what I read about the wider toe box for my 2E, 12.5 shoe size.

How long do these top dollar sidi, gaerne, and tech 10s last? I want to upgrade from my oneal element boots (aka cinder blocks) but can't afford to pay $400 for a pair of boots that only last 2-3 years.
I run the Gaerne GX-1, which is their $200 Italian made boot, and the soles have lasted 4 years of weekly mx. I prefer a light weight boot and the GX-1 is light, but long lasting. Heavy boots increase the chances of knee injuries.

Whatever feels comfortable when you try them on will be good. I didnt like my alpinestars tech 6's until I put insoles in them.

I've owned several non hinged boot boots in plastic and leather, for walking comfort leather is nice but doesn't provide enough foot protection. I have a pair of Tech 7s and they are so stiff I can't feel the brake lever or gear shift, plus they are unsafe for off road walking. I have two pair of Gaerne leather boots; old MX style and new Trials style. Both are very nice and comfortable and the Trials boots are waterproof, great trail riding boots.
But IMO the best boot is SIDI Crossfire; great protection, they are also comfortable, have a thin toe box for using the pedals, fairly water tight (I wear knee pads and I think the water gets in thru the tops), I can walk in them, nice easy to use latches, and replaceable parts. Plus two soles are available; MX and Enduro. Downside is they are pricey but you get what you pay for.
