The 150 is a great bike if you're light weight (130 - 160lb). I think anything over 160lb and you're probably better off with a thumper for the 250 class.

Ohh yea, the CR125 is one of the slowest 125's around. I think you'd be very happy with the 150sx of any vintage.

Revalve? Must revalve on the suspension because the motor won't need it.
I have a 2000 KTM 125EXC and a 2002 300EXC. I still love my 125 and won't part with it.
210 lbs and it still hauls my butt around, not so good on hills though!
My 125 will run pretty even with a 250F. They are a bit better at low end. More traction than me,
but more weight too, not as good in the twisty stuff. The EXC has much wider gears than any
of the 250Fs I have seen and my top speed has been better than any I have rode next to.
The best thing is the reliability of the 2 stroke. Mine went years before I replaced a piston.
If you plan on keeping it for a long time go for the left over bike.
If you plan on trading in a couple years, spend the extra for the newer bike.
Enjoy!

the recent CR125's are some of the best dirt bikes ever built. And they are not slow. You are spreading an untruth, my friend.

The CR has a great chassis and suspension, but the motor has ALWAYS been lacking. When I say "slow" I mean, its wasn't nearly as powerful as its competitors. You can read any review or shootout from the final days of the CR125 and it will always be dead last. Too little power, signs off too quickly, RC valve over-complicated things, but the chassis and suspension were second to none.
