Worthless read.. So this moron is trying to tell folks why one of the fastest riders is having issues. Love his take on the clutch.. Tried to tell him when he was on an 85 ok great so how many races did he win between then and now his clutch use aint that bad. If it works dont fix it and I really do believe the biggest issue is the bike. Folks seem to forget McGrath jumped ship from Honda because he did not want to ride the 97 CR because the new aluminum frame was way to stiff. I say give the guy a break and if he still is having issues on his new ride then you can tell him what he is doing wrong. If he is clicking we will then know just what a huge piece of crap the Yamaha is.. I do hope it is the bike....

This "moron" has trained some of the fastest and most successful racers out there. His list of students read like a who's who of professional motocross. Do you think it was just a fluke that JS was there to learn when he was younger? If he has seen an issue after analyzing videos, he would be one of only a handful that could offer a meaningful critique of the problem. So far the only worthless read in this thread has been your comments on the subject. For once, and I hope it never happens again, I agree with the Lurker.

Moron?  Really?  Now had you been talking about some TTers that would fit....David Bailey?  You fit the earlier group I mentioned.  See signature in case you have questions.

Yeah sorry I have the deepest respect for the so called Professor and his opinion. Yes JS is riding the bike incorrectly he needs to change and use the clutch more and he will win!!! Shoot I bet if JS wins this weekend the professor will have a new article with pictures telling us why he is now winning.

Been to his school, he's big into the small details.  He was teaching the 'balls of your feet' riding back when Bradshaw was turning heads.  Better have a finger or two on the clutch lever too, or you get smacked on the hand with a stick.

I would agree with the professor!  Why do u think he will change his mind? I think you statements are way off and fit the extreemist category!  We said nothing off base and ur calling him a moron!  There is deff a moron here and its not bailey!

I guess David Bailey needs his 15 minutes, doesn't he?    I would have liked for him to show us pictures of HIM riding the right way.

this is a good way for him to use the popular opinions of RV, JS and some CR to possibly sell a few videos.

I have seen him rail around a muddy, pouring down rain, miserable track.  When a pro made the statement "Huh?... that can't be done!"  Gary hoped on his KX250 and showed him how.  This was about 20 years ago, so I'm guessing he was at least 50.  He was very impressive, and all 25 - 30 students there were amazed by his insight, tenacity, and talent.  The guy's a brilliant teacher IMO.

Now I get it.  Those who view JS as royalty are angry with Bailey for criticizing him.

Love is blind.

Now I get it.   Those who hate James automatically celebrate when someone says something less than complimentary about him.

If love is blind, then you can't see either, because you must love to hate him

But... that wasn't my point.    My point was that he could have given the same good advice by not focusing so much on James.   Sure, use James as one of several different examples.    But too much James removes the focus from the good advice he was trying to give.   Besides, had he not used James as the example, would we really be talking about it... or Bailey?

Definitely don't view James as royalty.    Definitely not angry at Bailey.

really? I agree with bailey 100%. And even lurker said he agreed!  We have got to be some of the biggest defenders of james in here!  When a professor speaks you listen!  He knows what he is talking about!  He brought up great points!

I would bet you agree with me often you just don't want to admit it.

No you don't get it, you don't have the ability to get it.  Blame your parents.

It's not the first time he has bagged on JS about not using his clutch.

I don't know if David Bailey needs his 15 minutes, but since it was his dad Gary that made the comments, maybe he wanted them. But of course, he already is famous, and continues to train stars.

Apparently there are a lot of people on this site who don't pay attention to who, in pro mx/sx is coached/trained/taught by who. Maybe you should do a little research before you go trashing someone you have never heard of who has trained many riders who are considered among the greatest ever to throw a leg over a motocross bike.

As for the techniques mentioned, keeping the clutch covered is common sense but still kind of tricky for me. Every so often I catch myself without a finger on the clutch. Going from riding in my arches to the balls of my feet was really easy for me. I went to a one day riding school and it was a new habit by the end of the day. I need to work on getting back into my arches in certain situations though. My feet are huge so when I ride on thw balls of my feet my heels hit the ground easy on hard landings which can lead to some scary and painful moments.

I loved how Big James backed up Bailey when James took a lesson. That guy is almost as responsible as JS7 for helping to get him the career he has had. He pushed JS7 when needed.

Big James is THE MAN behind his son's success. It erks me to no end to never hear JS thanking his parents, when his dad is the one that busted his rear working two, sometimes more jobs to pay for his son to race in his younger years, thus building his future career. God Bless James Stewart Sr., the American Dad!

Hey I do that high knee thing! keeps my knee safe, but I never thought it made me faster - it's just natural

Dude, I was thinking the same thing. I never knew it was a good riding technique, it just feels natural to get on the front of my feet, (which puts my knees up high,)when I start turning the agression up. I noticed myself doing the same thing on the street, as well as the dirt. I will also lean forward and get some weight up on the bars at times, I guess this is technique too? It feels natural anyway.

I don't hate JS, just disapointed that he's become a star, a celebrity, a big shot.  I don't see him as a racer anymore, he's not hungry.

  I've heard him thank his parents a LOT.  Not sure why that would bother you so much, you know he is thankful, I am sure you have seen how his mom and dad live.

He gave his parents credit in that vid that was posted a few days ago and the opening dialogue for his TV show was about how his parents sacrificed for him
