Fans of Kawi 2 strokes rejoice! (well, maybe rejoicing is too strong a word) -- but the newest ish of Dirt Bike has a article on the Service Honda/Kawasaki KDX 200 in a modern 250F chassis. Also in the issue is a retrospective on the KX-500 for fans of the 5-honey
The KDX hybrid sounds like a real drool worthy machine . A tad expensive, at $12k, but you only live once. They say the same chassis with either a KX250 or 500 motor is the same price -- and i have seen a pic of one of the 500 conversions right here from one of the members ---- would be nice to have a spare 25k lying around for both the 500 and 200.
Good articles in new Dirt Bike magazine

For that cash, I'd want the 500 to be electric start with free rear tires for one year. My real dream bike would be the "KDX" but with a 300 motor. And electric start.

I hear ya on the e-button Bolon, but really, the guy that spends 12 k for one of these bikes is doing it because he wants something different and he has the disposable income to say "screw it - its my dream bike"
Plus -- if it is a dream bike that you keep for a decade, it doesn't seem any more expensive than buying new mx bikes every 3 years and taking the hit on depreciation at every re-sale time.
My latest was a garden variety 450 that i have 10k into after the 7k purchase price, suspension, pipe and a few other things-- i may be able to sell it for $3500 for a gross loss of $6500.
But admittedly, it would have to be a darn special bike to keep for 10 years

True dat. Definitely not for bottom feeders like me. Still, a KDX 300 2t (not sure how they'd do it) would make me lay awake at night thinking about it. Or I could buy a KTM, but that would be too easy and not so massively cool.

Ed, I've seen your posts on parts swapping and I gotta tell you how much I appreciate it. A long time ago I got tired of reading about how the only things you can do to a bike is pile a thousand dollars worth of aftermarket stuff on it, but it's like some kind of heresy to swap a 250 into a 125 chassis or use an engine from a different year bike. I'm looking for a late model KX125 chassis for my 89 KX250. Last month I spotted a KDX250 transmission at a great price, but I was too slow. If I get lucky on the parts search, I'll definitely be looking to pick your brain.
