Well ive done a bunch of research and haven't really found a great answer for my question. So heres my story, I bought a 2012 CRF250R this year and it has a grand total of 5.8 hours on it. Before I put fuel in it I put a streamline tank filter in along with hour meter and radiator braces, but anyways when I got it I first did a few heat cycles to break it in. At 1 hour i started riding easy on the track then worked into it. At 3 hours I changed the transmission oil and engine oil and filter. Ive cleaned my air filter and properly oiled it after every ride. Well before my race this past weekend I checked the oil the same way I always do with the tires on the garage floor and it was about a 1/4 of in inch over the top mark on the dipstick. I could smell gas and noticed the oil was really thin so immediately drained the oil. So after writing all this semi useless information do you guys think I should go with a new injector being thats the only way gas can get in there? Also how do I go about replacing the injector, I haven't had time to go borrow a service manual for my bike. I talked to my local dealer where I used to work and he said he would call honda today for me. They also said they would help me out on the cost of the injector. So what do you guys think?

I have posted two threads about similar issues on a 2010 bike in the last two weeks and have not got a response in either so the guys who have had and dealt with this issue seem to have disappeared.  I had my local shop contact a honda service rep and was told that is was not an injector issue but a sensor issue (which i dont believe).  I am going to be more vigilant now and determine if the fuel is leaking into the crank case while the bike is running or while the bike is parked.  I was under the impression that it was happening when the bike was parked and thus it could not be a sensor issue because the ecu would not be sending/receiving any signal from anything.  The honda service tech also said something about 93 octane contributing to the cause of this so remapping and running 87 octane (since I dont race) would help.  Which also sounds like complete BS to me, but i am just a shade tree mechanic.

My gut says it is the injector and the fuel system remaining in constant pressure, but I also thought changing to a 2011/2012 injector was solving the issue for the 2010 guys.  Well if you have a 2012 that may not be the case.  At this point I am in the same boat as you, wondering what I need to fix/replace to get this thing to work.  no help to you, but you arent the only one actively seeking a solution.  Let me know what you hear from honda.

I've just followed the advice of the others on here and slowly kicked it until it reaches top dead center and you hear it click.I haven't noticed any fuel smell since then but then again I don't ride that often due to my schedule.

From 2010 to 11- all they did was change the fuel pump design I believe. Tonight when I get outa work I'm going to put it at tdc and check the oil level exactly how it sits on its stand. Then tommarow I will check it again to see if it moved and so on until this weekend.

I also have a 12 crf250r and I always push the kickstart lever down untill I hear a click so I know its at TDC. The bike has 36 hours of moto on it and the oil level never seems to rise. Has your bike had any false neutrals?

I have hit a false neutral one time before a double. I didn't give it a real firm shift though. Other than that I haven't had a problem. I got a call from my local dealer who talked to Honda for me. He said Honda told him that the minimum rpm needed to burn all the gas that is getting sent to the cylinder on a cold start is 1700 rpm. They also said to leave the high idle knob out until the bike is toasty warm and DO NOT touch the throttle when it is cold or fuel is just washing the cylinder. He also said if that doesn't fix it the fuel pressure would need to be checked along with the sensors. I think I'm going to invest in some die electric and do all the connection just to be on the safe side. I laughed when I heard him say Honda has had lots of calls about fuel in the oil

This is happened on my '10 and now my '12 too. I've not had any problems with either bike. It just makes me want to change the oil more often. I usually change it between 3-4 hours, 4 hours being the max. I know its' overkill but I change the oil filter almost every time too.

Yeah I'm going to keep changing oil every 3 hours along with the filter. As long as I keep an eye on the oil it won't be to bad. I'm also going to run 10-40 instead of 10-30 now

i had the same problem.. i took it in everything was fine.. they did tell me that short ride times and revving your bike while its warming up can be a reason

Guys tdc every time you park it, I mean when I get off the track I put it at TDc right away.
oil changes every 2 hours manual states oil changed every 2.5 hours any way. Honda knows , I called them it was like taking to a lawyer. No warranty. Let it warm up before riding it too. 8 hours on mine notcied the gas smell right away then pulled the dip stick out of my 06 and smelled it no fuel smell.
Honda knows of the problem and will basically laugh in your face!.
I read another thread on here and some guy was changing his oil every 15 years , I mean come on read your manual. Just stupid.

Why are you asking about false neutrals?

I have had quite a few recently... but no fuel smell (as far as I can tell), and no oil rising...
I also checked valve clearance just to make sure. the machine has 70 hours on it and they didn't budge... valves are fine!

I did get a back starting of the engine though last week and when the kickstart went back it broke the stopper in the case. Honda said it was caused by kickstarting it with the throttle open (which I didn't do). now that the problem is fixed I am trying to figure out what caused it so it won't happen again...

Do you think the two are connected? and what does the transmission has to do with it?

I have been hitting a false neurtral every now and then when i shift between 3rd and 4th. Those are the only 2 gears I really use though. It seems to happen when I try to do a really fast shift. I will click up and then its like somebody hit the front brake but then the bike goes into gear.

well I have good news! When my bike isn't in use I have been putting it at TDC and also tried the above things mentioned. Well after 45 minutes of straight riding and sitting for two days. I pulled the dipstick to find no gas in the oil. It was awesome!

The hardest part about it is remembering to do it.
