I purchased a new 2011 KX250f in March 2012, I have ridden it on tracks and trails a total of 5 times.  I noticed after my last ride that I had some oil around the front sprocket and gear shifter and also down the chain.  I originally thought that it was from me laying it down (I mean gently laying it down) to help a fellow rider that wrecked on a jump. After cleaning the oily area,  I waited a few days and got back on it and ran it down the road and the oil appeared in the same spots. There is not a lot of oil on the ground where it sits.  Any idea of what is going on?  I just got back into riding so I'm not on top of the mechanics of the bike.

Did you lube your chain before your ride?  Anything you spray on the chain will tend to create a mess like you are describing

First off, your going to have to find exactly where the oil is coming from. Output shaft? Shift shaft? Chain lube? Somewhere else? Determine where it's coming from, then you'll know what is wrong..

Maybe it is just the chain lube, I spray it on after every ride.  I'm going to a track this weekend so I will put a few hours on it and maybe get a better idea.  Thanks for the replies.

Same thing happened to my brothers 2011. It was the front sprocket shaft seal. He thought it was just chain oil aswell haha
