Hey guys, I just bought my first two stroke, I rebuild the to end yesterday, put in a new piston rings and gaskets.  Mixed my fuel and kicked her over.  The bike started sounded good, then started rev high for about 5 sec.  It seems to start revving high erratically.  When this happens I can turn it off.  Would this be a carb issue?  I never touched the Carb, I'm thinking about throwing some seafoam in it.

Any sugggestions?

I just notice the carb spits out gas, one I start kicking the bike over, its stops leaking.  When I stop kicking it over, its start to leak out of the res tube.  As if the float is overflowing.

Sound like the float shut off valve is bad or dirty.  Pull carb off, remove bowl, turn gas on (with container under to catch gas), and lift up on float. The fuel should stop flowing. It would be a good time to clean it while you have it out too.

I removed the carb and measured the float, put the carb back in, does the same thing.  Now I just read your message Tailender.  What is the float shut off valve? is that the cone shaped needle that is hooked up on the float?

i would think you are running lean. pull the carb and see if when the throttle is closed it is acually closed. what are the jets in it? i would reset the float while you are in there and clean the needle and seat. if it revs really high a eratic it sounds like it is lean or running out of gas .

Thanks for all the help guys.  I've taken my time and really cleaned it out.  Then I measured the float and it was about 13mm off. wow.  Anyway, as per manual, I measured the float, place it back in properly and now she purrs like I just bought it from the factory. Thanks for input, I love this site.  Can't wait to go riding again.  So ... float was way off set.  I think someone was in there before me trying to fix it.

The float height is 16mm. Manual says to tilt carb until float tip just contacts float valve. In other words there should be no compression on the spring in the float needle.

no I can't remember the size, about the pilot screw I would just go with what the manual says for now, then play with it after that.  I had a FMF pipe on mine.  It was bought like that.

watch tht cone valve. if u dont put it in exactly right it will cause ur bike to run wide open. same thing happened to mine. it idled high once like u described i took bowl off. and adjusted the cone thing. then it idled right. took it apart one more time. to clean jets. didnt put cone thing in right. nd the son of a gun came alive and screamed bloody mary! wide open. make sure that cone thing is completely rested in the hole and completely free

take a look at the manual, this is what got me confused, when I looked closely at the picture, you need to put that float at an angle.  Just like the book says, then you mesure 13mm from there.  Get a good measuring tool, you always need this when working on these bikes. Something digital prefered I would say.
I use one of these

i have that same caliper too. the float level is actually 16mm per the manual. i was just curious on your float level. you said yours was off by 13mm causing overflow, so i was curious as to which way was it off, up or down? did it bend upwards? or downwards? thanks

I believe it was up, I bought the bike used.  I believe someone probably measured the float having it leveled before I looked at it.
