Hey everybody,
I recently picked up a 2006 Yz250f. The motor is completely stock and has a little over 25 hours I would say since the last rebuild from what I was told. I just want to know what maintenance you guys are doing week by week. Also what is the best oil to run. Currently I am running Premium 93 in it and it runs great. Haven't had a single issue with it. Just want to change the oil before I go to the track and wanted to know what kind is the best for the 250f.

Go ahead and read that link and that should answer most of your questions. If you don't have a manual that should be the first thing you get. There are links for free downloads of the manual or if you want a hard copy your local dealer can sell you one or online. Congrats again and have fun.

ive got an 07 yz 250f and i always run premium (93) in it also, as for oil i use rotella, its actually made for trucks but it works great in my bike, i usually just clean my air filter visually, ill take a peek inside and see if its dirty, if it is ill clean it. grats on the new bike

Congrats on the bike!
Did you pick it up from someone you knew or do you know the history of the bike?
I would strongly recommend an hour meter if it doesn't already have one.
Take apart all linkage, swingarm, steering head, etc. bearings and lube with a good waterproof grease, such as Bel-Ray. This should be done roughly every 20 hours. Also check wheel bearings and tighten the spokes.
I would check the valve clearances on any used bike regardless of what the previous owner said (unless I know him personally & what maintenance was done).
I would also check to make sure the intake valve recall has been completed, which was specific to the 2006 YZ250F`s. The bulletin on this can be found on the Forum FAQ second post under the link Swede posted.
Shell Rotella is definitely one of the most popular oils...I run Rotella 15W-40 Triple Protection conventional, but I know many who run the synthetic version too.
I usually change the oil every 5-7 hours, 10 hours max. Make sure your air filter is nice and clean before each ride.
When was the last time the suspension oils and components were freshened up?
Make sure you replace the timing chain at least once a year (or any time you're in the engine deep enough). It's cheap insurance at under $20 for the OEM Yamaha one. It's also a good idea to invest in a Manual Cam Chain Tensioner, as they're much more reliable than the stock ones. http://www.bigboreth...tensioners.html (The '01-'05 one will fit your '06)
It's also a great idea to check and torque all the bolts on the bike every once in a while.
